Could be vermin under the floor. Is the kitchen on the ground floor or is there a basement underneath?

Well I would put him in there when you are home and work on it there, first. Some of the crates come with a latch so the pan doesn't get ejected. I would jimmy-rig it with something to block the slot the pan comes out of. If that doesn't work, I'd do what I always recommend for every situation. But for this I would vary the method. Step one: Open the crate door. Step two: Beat said dog with a rubber hose. Step three: no need for another step. After step two, the dog will gladly stay in the crate quietly. Problem solved!

Don are you serious!  I will try stepping up the level of correction without being abusive.  I was just nervous of making him think that the kennel is a punishment.

That was a joke! I would feed him in the crate, put him in there while I was home and ignore any such behavior. I would fix it so the pan cannot come out. He does not come out unless he is quiet.

lol...Alright Don...lol  You had me going.  I thought you where serious.  I wasn't sure what to think.  I will give that a shot.  I appreciate it.

I wouldn't discount what was already said about SA. That's why I asked what he did in the crate if you were home.

 I'll play.

I can't believe that no one caught or took issue with  "almost every day." On what planet is "almost every day" often enough for a 9 mo. old working line GSD to not be bored? They have to do SOMETHING every day. Something.........get creative. We all know you can.

What do you do when you "work" him and for how long? Tell us exactly what you do with him, when, and for how long.

Get an aluminum crate or a steel one. They're like $500, but they'll work for your situation. Sell a dog if you need some extra cash. That would fix both problems, lol.

He is probably mad at you for leaving him, sometimes my dogs will get angry at me for leaving and tear things up.

No Jenni, sell a photo of a dog, lol.

"It is a large indoor wire kennel and he pushes the plastic flooring out of it and then he goes crazy on the kitchen floor."

One of many reasons I don't like wire crates.  Get an enclosed plastic travel crate; he'll probably feel more protected in it and calm down.  If you still have an issue, then it's time to consider Jen's suggestion of an aluminum or steel crate.
