No it wasn't a while back considering PSA has been around for less than 10 years. The work at the FMBB that you are referring to was performed by 1 man, the work that I saw was by numerous decoys/helpers on multiple dogs.

I'd like to see some kind of documentation of that. Surely it exists somewhere other than in one man's memory. I'm not saying it isn't true, especially as it may have been in the extreme youth of the sport; but really it would be nice to have that kind of disaster properly recorded.

Phil is refering to a decoy seminar, people who where training to be decoys. I'd worry more about KNPV style catches than PSA, they do absorb the impact or are supposed to anyway. Not everyone is created equal, it's too bad you saw some bad examples. I've seen some shit in Schutzhund myself, I'm still not affraid to send my dog on a long send for a sleeve. He's in more danger heeling with me, I routinely step on his feet accidently.

Bob if you see Christie there can you please give her a big hug for me. IMO I would not have but my old dog Astra in a PSA training or trial if I did not think it was safe. The decorys are safe and trusting.

I think your version of safe and my version of safe are two different things. I had my recently deceased FRII dog there just to get some work in and to show the folk what a gripping dog with control from an actual working sport could do. After seeing the available work on display, I gave him a couple of grips on a guy he knew and put him back in the truck. My dog's safety is more important than allowing him to work on bad training. You can argue all you want but I have been around the biting game for a long time, PP, SchH, FR, Police K9 and worked it from both sides, helper/decoy and handler, I have never witnessed worse treatment of animals during a session of work anywhere. Go right ahead and treat your animals any way you want, they're yours and I can't stop you but what I will do is never support PSA through participation or attendance. Those of you that know me, know that if I am anything I am painfully honest, some don't like it, I really don't care. Some of the people responding here have very little experience in the biting sports so limited exposure is a problem. I can offer you this example:
If I were a restaurant critic and I went to a particular establishment to rate the quality of it's food and service and I saw that the restaurant was very dirty, dinnerware and glasses full of spots and grime, chairs torn, menus full of grease, carpet smelly, terrible quality food, horrendous service and because of one or more of these problems, I became very sick due to a food-borne illness, what kind of review do you think I should give?
Now if someone else were to go out for their "very first ever" restaurant visit and have the same experience, what do you think their opinion would be??
In closing, some of you are going to support it, I can't stop you but like I mentioned earlier, no one that trains with me or no dog that is bred by me will ever set foot on a PSA field. Friends of the dog world can only hope that it fades away like every other backyard sport that was developed for the "real" dog.

Phil, that depends on what type of restaurant. Your analogy is like going to McDonald's # 5466 in Chicago. Although it is dirty and disgusting, do you think it is fair to review every McDonald's on one visit?
My advice to you, is to visit this trial and confirm what you already believe. If everything was based on the first experience, very few men would receive another chance at getting laid.
I'm sure you can attest to this, but not all SchH clubs are the same

You missed my point. I witnessed it on EVERY FREAKIN' DOG THAT CAME ON THE FIELD, not just one. It wasn't just my burger that was tainted, it was every burger in the restaurant. If you see a dog get jammed at a trial, you basically think "OUCH", that was ugly, I'll see how he works the next one. When you see the next dog, and the next dog, and the next dog, people usually stand up and start chirping to the attending judge and in some cases, helpers even get pulled. I don't give second chances on MY dogs, you may, that's up to you. I've said my peace and have given my opinion from MY experience, you do what you want with the information.

I didn't miss your point. You are judging all of McDonald's on your experience with one paricular franchise, not one burger. You can't base a whole sport on one experience. When scientists do experiments, do you think they are one and done?
With your ne analogy, the helpers were the burgers, the club is the franchise and McDonalds is the sport. Just because one franchise had a bad batch of burgers, doesn't mean that all franchises are tainted.
All I'm saying, is that you should look twice before crossing the road.

Never mind, I feel sorry for your dogs

by 4pack on 13 October 2010 - 15:10
I agree, give a thumbs down to the one restaurant, not the whole damn chain!
Like I said, not all clubs or decoys are created equally. Your harping and finger pointing has me a bit ticked. Lumping all PSAers as abusive to their dogs, is going a tad overboard but it just goes to show how wacked your brain is, on the subject.
