I won't comment on the angulation, but I can tell you that the photo is definitely altered.  In my opinion, however,  the dog has not been cut in half and another rear put in, but a human being was altered out of the background.  This is readily obvious from the fact that the foliage does not match, but also the yellow lead just vanishes in thin air, like it's being held up by a ghost.  So yes, altered, but I'd bet the dog hasn't been altered.  With the experience I have, using a number of programs for photo editing, including Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10, I don't believe the dog has been edited.  The "bleed-through" on the topline is a result of editing out the handler behind the dog, and the "clone" or "blending" brush tool brushed the black, causing color bleed through between black and green.

JLY,  Looks like your showline GSD has a pretty good perception of what working is and looks impressive.. He is showing drive... I do not mean this comment to be sarcastic.. I truly mean it sincerely.. I love all GSDs regardless of what lines they are from.. Someone in another post labeled some GSDs as useless.  I say there are NO USELESS GSDs. There is a job for each and everyone of them..

Now about that stack in the OP.. I don't think its fair to any dog, to be judged or positively doomed by pictures alone.

why in the world do people breed angles like this in the first place?  its one thing if it was the occasional accidental too angulated pup but people actually like this... WHY????

Can anyone help me to see if this is good angulation.  I am a new owner of a GSD show line.... please be honest!  :)

I never did see the original photo so I can only comment on the one above and the new one on the pedigree page - www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/609621.html

To me he looks to have a good balanced structure, with the photo above having him "leaning back" with his front legs not vertical and the one on the pedigree easily the better of the two. Again it just goes to show how misleading photos are and any conclusions taken from them especially with young dogs & pups who still have growing to do anyway. As an example just quickly switch between the two to see the different image they present.

He has compact tight paws with good bone and nicely angled pasterns. A fine front end with tucked in (& back) elbows, good lay of the shoulder with a correct angle between it and the upper arm. I'm not going to comment on the back/croup as I always get confused here but his body is nicely compact. He has a good rear asssembly also with good bone around the hocks, a short lower leg and not too much angle between it and the upper leg (would be seen better if the hock was vertical but tough to do with a wriggling impatient youngster).

All in all, IMHO, I think his angulation is pretty good (I've seen much worse) and he looks like he's going to grow into a fine example.

AandA,

Your critique is marvellous but (after saying I am not an expert as many know) HIS WITHERS look very low and very poor at least in this photo !!!

Ibrahim, I did notice that also but am not so sure it's not due to a dip in the coat caused by the collar. Unfortunately the pedigree page has now gone so we only have the photo on this thread as reference.

Thanks for the compliment and, after basking in the adulation for a litlle too long, also have to admit that I am no real expert. But after spectating & studying at many shows, picking up valuable insights from this very site and hours observing my own hound I like to think I have learned a little that may also help others. After all you never stop learning.

Cheers,

AandA
