My pup just went out of heat.  I keep those cloox wipes and just clean as I see spots.  I let her and my boy stay together until the 10th day then it was on and off in crates.  (her a while, him a while) He didn't howl but he panted and didn't eat for 5 days.  Even when he was out of his crate he parked himself beside her crate and panted and watched every move she made...........what a mess it all was.  But I guess it is one of those things you have to deal with when you keep unaltered dogs.
Moons I hear ya on buying a doggy hooker.  LOL...............

She eats like a horse and he barely nibbles at his, at least for the last two days.
I couldn't put them in the same room together crate or not, he would only mount the crate and then I'd have another mess to clean up..lol
Thats almost gross now that I think of it.

Maybe not a dogie hooker, but maybe something inflatable?
Thats kinda gross too....

Might slip him a sleeping pill, or take two myself and sleep through the late night serenade.
Anyway I do think its about over, at least the hard part, perhaps two more days.
Once she stops flagging and has a bath he will lose interest.

I use SaniPants made by 4Paw (I think).. they are plastic, adjustable and you can use a grocery store brand pad with wings and adhesive  to keep them in place.....

I also put towels or additional mats down in front of crates, where they stop on the way in or out ..

Yeap, have let them out and forgot the panties were on, that's what's nice about the sanipants.... you can always throw that little foam liner away and just rinse them or wet rag them to get them clean.. they are inexpensive so no big deal if you have to trash them..

Males will howl, scream, moan, dance and swoon in front of the crate of their object of affection (which incidentally, changes like the wind, or is that moon?) .. I think they know they have a very short window of opportunity and don't want to miss it...

Had one of our girls out in the kennel and an afternoon coyote visitor, just stood there looking at the whole scenario.. guess he decided it was too much work.. he eventually left

Yes I also know what you are going through, 2 of my bitches came in on the same day, March 1st  neither were to be bred .
One is already off but the other is still going and she has been flagging at my boy ( or even the other girls ) for the past 4 days. Poor fellow he is going nuts, he has kept us awake for the past 3 nights with his yelping and whinging even though he can't see her. Just seeing her going for a toilet walk starts him off. Hope she will be off in a day or 2.

I think he may be 2 stones lighter before the next time as he is never going to be used as a stud dog and I think that the cut would be kinder to him.

Bitch in heat?  Quick give her some water.
No, really, I like the fancy pants idea.  It seems reasibable bc u can reuse them for all the bitches.  I may try it myself.  Thanks DKiah.

I'm waiting... my bitch is due in heat any day now and my male is old enough to understand what's going on now.  I tried the diaper thing once, kept forgetting to take it off for her to go out.  She's very clean though, so I just put some sheets over where she likes to sleep and wash those.

NO, Moons! You have to say it with a Spanish accent....Pan ta LOH nez! Otherwise it's tacky.

My first experience with a bitch in heat was with Tasha, the rescue in my avatar. The vet said there was no way of knowing if she was spayed, so I would just have to wait and see. Sure enough, she came in season a short time later.

I was sharing a house with a friend, and it had light coloured wall-to-wall broadloom. I got a pad holder and elastic belt from the local pet store that was the same idea as what us older ladies are familiar with from the days before tampons and adhesive pads became so popular. It was a GREAT idea, because she could push the pad aside to clean herself, yet the rugs were still protected. And even though it was her first season, she had a REALLY heavy flow!

Anyone know if it's still possible to buy that type of pad and belt? The only thing they have now are the diapers (e.g., Seasonals) and I found my bitch was so desperate to clean herself that she ripped it apart the second night she was wearing it. Luckily most of this house isn't carpeted, so I managed to get by with letting her go without a diaper. I also found a T-shirt didn't work, as it just would NOT stay on. Star has quite a tuck-up in the abdomen, and when she was spayed, not even the bandages would stay in place, let alone a t-shirt.

Beautiful photo, Moons!  She actually looks like she's full grown. She's a very solid-looking girl!
