people realize your dog would need to eat a lot of these things to really be affected. it would be like taking 2 asprin as opposed to the whole bottle. so in moderation most of these things are not bad. in larger doses they can be deadly. table scraps with a little garlic is not going to harm your dog but feed it a whole bottle of clooves and you might have problems.

Jim- Yes it is mostly the good Belgium chocolates that are the worse for the dogs....good for us though!! lol

Freemont- Did you cook the garlic? There is garlic in some dog foods and there is a powder. So maybe it is depenent on the processing of it wether it makes them sick or not.

Ronnie- sorry but poor Dinkster is just going to have to stop licking his balls and ass and maybe his breath wouldn't be so bad.lol

Heck,

Ya'll sure are on your high horses today when it comes to food.
  • Lets' see: What to feed since organic feeds are getting out of sight.

Roadkill
Possum - a Year-Round Choice (Feed fresh when possible)
Armadillo- close running to possum but must be tenderized through leaf shredder.
Coon- Best fed fresh (keep tail to tie on radio antenna)
Deer- Considered to be a delicacy (will last 2-3 day in cold weather) pups love the hide.
Squirrels- usually too small to fool with - but low in cholesterol
Cats- feeding tends to develop bad habits when dogs are around live ones.
Coyotes- Avoid feeding, makes the sensitives dogs feel like cannibals.

Fish.
Crappie Fillet- No problems
Catfish Fillet - No problems
Small bream- 1-2" fed whole No problems

Fruits
Possum Grapes- Just what they pick up while out for walks - never hurt them
Pears- They enjoy gnawing on them - know problems
Apples - Wild ones - no problems.
Turnip roots - no problems
Persimmons- No Problems
  • Other indigenous fruits, vegetables, fish. Seem to be no problems.
GOOD LUCK.  REMEMBER LAUGHTER IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL.

Does anyone have any advice re carrots and oranges? Our last GSD would drool beyond belief when we were eating mandarins, and loved the odd segments we gave him. He also loved raw carrots.

Carrots are fine. That is a treat for my dogs instead of the crap at the store. I was cutting an orange and my dog was sitting there.I didn't think that he would eat it but he did.Didn't kill him.I don't make a habit of it. I more so give them apples, bananas, carrots and a some other veggies.

Carrots was recommended to me by a German breeder as a good source of vitamins for puppies  adults dogs, I tried it & 2 of adult GSD Adore it.

Mandarins is my jack russel's favorite fruit.

My dogs eat the above with no problems

Thanks LAVK-9,
The new pup had a feast trying to steal carrots and apples from a horse I was feeding the other day. I found carrot sticks great for teething with the last one. Never saw any negative effects, but you wonder how veg and fruit may affect them.
