Rescues are full of dogs that match your description, Lookin...

Show dogs, working dogs, pet dogs...They run the entire spectrum.  Check for a local rescue or even animal shelter, and see what is there...Don't be afraid to go outside your area to check rescues.  There was an absolutely gorgeous male GSD, black and red, stunning dog, in our local animal shelter right here in my home town last August...Neutered male, wonderful temperament.  So check those sources before going to a breeder.  Not only will you invest less money, but since you are looking for a dog that fits the description....Rescue would be the better way to go.

As far as looking like a showdog, look at some pics of showdogs...you will see that they, too, fit no particular mold as far as appearance...They run the entire spectrum of colors, overall size, etc. Some are fairly fine boned, some are heavy, others are light in color, still others are dark.  There are bunches in the middle....If you're not looking for a working dog, and you're not looking for a dog that can win in a show ring, why not give a rescue dog a chance?

Jim,
1.First of all GSD should have a scissor bite. Thus first educate yourself. I and others here would be glad to help you and guide you if you would not call every body who breeds dogs a crook.

2.Dog with one testicle should not be sold without telling the buyer, but could be great dog if you remove undescended testicle. Not that expensive. Also sometimes testicle is down and then goes reversibly or irreversibly up. So who knows what happened in you dog's case.

3.Dogs have blood in the stool after shipping sometimes because they get stressed in the shipping . Stress diminishes their immune system and opportunistic organism take over.

4.If you have spend $3000 on these problems then maybe you need to get different vet. And if you consider to put the dog down for these reasons then maybe you should not have a dog.
Sorry for being harsh. But you started it.

Pharaoh

I think you should go to some German style conformation shows within driving distance and you can start making contacts there.  If you are willing to take a long coat, you could really get a kick ass beautifuly dog.  Maybe even a perfect dog, except for the coat.  I have noticed coats tend to be sweeter and more even tempered.  I really like how they look.

Most of the showlines cary the gene for long coat and that is why they are so plush.  Some coats are shorter haired than others.

Here is my beautiful Phanny at 11 years old.

She was not a long coat but right on the border and had two coats in the litter she was born in.  It is not so black and white.  When she was a puppy, people said "that's what I want" and offered me money for her.  It was the huge bone and fluffy fur and good pigment they reacted to,

I think you could find what you are looking for.  Sometimes show breeders keep back several dogs, and sometimes it is hard to tell the coats.  That is what I recommend for you.

Concentrate on kennels near enough to drive to.  I drove 13 hours twice to visit the kennel where Pharaoh came from.  I want to see how they live before I vote with my dollars.

I could help a little more but it's hard without knowing the area of the country you come from.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks to the internet its not uncommon to get screwed especially if you have no idea who you are buying from. Not just here on this forum but anywhere; weather it's a GSD, a poodle or a bird.  Sometimes breeders do everything right but things still can happen health wise down the line that they just really didnt know.  If you bought a dog that you did not know only had 1 testicle then yes absolutely I'd be upset if I paid big bucks but you made the choice to keep the dog as it was. I didn't hear any mention of you attempting to return the dog or any conversation you had with the breeder regarding your dissatisfaction.

None the less, you asked for recommendations for your next one and I will offer a few people I at least feel are honest. My first GSD came from Eurosport K9 he was already trained, he was not cheap by any means BUT he was priced at his worth and EXACTLY what I asked for.  My second dog I purchased unfortunately I do not have good things to say about the people and would not recommend them. There was nothing wrong with the dog they are just total SCHMUCKS! We'll just leave it at that.

There's a few folks in the US I'd feel comfortable buying from but again I dont know where you are from or if you are open to having a dog picked n shipped for you???

Alpine K9  has had nice dogs for sale and Hans is a knowledgable guy to ask.  Jean at Schraderhaus K9 also is a great lady, honest and has nice dogs.  It really depends what you're looking for.

If you're just looking for a pet I'm sure there is a small hobby breeder in your area that would have a pup for you AND you can go see the parents, meet the breeder, see the living conditions and get a feel for if this is who you want to do business with. Not everyone that has a litter is a crook or out to make a killing on selling a dog.  I've had a couple litters and honestly I think I asked more questions from my potential buyers than they asked me. If a breeder is not willing to give you references upon request of people who own their dogs, have trained their dogs, seen their dogs work or are not open to welcoming you to come see their dogs, home then it's time to move on to the next one.

The only person that I know for sure I would trust with a showline on this board is KCzaja.  She breeds for the whole pkg, not just the showring.   Very honest and straightforward when it comes to structure and temperament.
