Hey Shelley,
Didn't you already promise that no matter what, if Portia only had 1 pup that it would go to that person?? I don't think it's fair of you to go back on your word. You already did that to him with one dog!!!

For real?

Yup. First right of refusal goes to John, no charge for the puppy. I will wait for the next, just hope T is still fertile by that time. Meanwhile, Portia is going back to work as soon as she gets her figure back. She needs about 2 weeks of refresher work for her SchH 1 and another 2 weeks of conditioning for the FH1.
I am going back to my original kennel name for this pup. This will be my Q litter vom Haus Roecker. The puppy will be either sable or solid black. I hope its a female, because the females from this line (both sides) are exceptional, AND, because I want a puppy back someday after John titles her and gets the breed survey. :-D
Not sure what I am going to do about MY name when the final divorce decree is finally handed down from the court. I'm thinking I have quite a bit of time to think about that.
The pup doesn't look oversized in the x-ray, so why anticipate a problem with natural whelping? I am not one to anesthetize a perfectly healthy, normal breeding age female, for no good reason. I have had dogs suffer prolonged recoveries from anesthesia. Scared the hell out of me! If she needs help, my girl GETS that help, of course. Her mom's last litter (that would be Ali, for those of you who know her) was a single pup litter. She was born normal size & weight, but boy-oh-boy, was she a little piggy by two weeks, having the entire milk bar to herself!
I'm thinking no pup tonight, but keeping one eye on her. Its been my experience that females dogs don't all read the book on whelping procedure. They feel free to have pups after a nice big dinner, with or without temperature drop, occasionally with no outward signs of labor. I can see her from my bed under the heat lamp. All she has to do is turn around a couple of times in the box and I wake up.

My Q girl is Qira, which supposedly means sunshine. Hard to find good Q names. She's a fiesty little demon and always happy and full of mischief, so sunshine suits her.
Good luck to all on the birth of this Q puppy!
