They are both world class trainersand Ivan is a world class competitor as well.
Being a trainer and doing a bunch of seminars,is apples and oranges, some people like to compete, some people like to train and teach others, nothing wrong with either in my view.
If opportunity presented itself, I'd like to train with both of them. And yes, Ivan has a bit of a think accent, since he is coming from a Slavic, eastern European country, but I can speak his language fluently, so that wouldn't bother me a bit.
Elis sure does seem like a nice, calm and patient guy with a great ability to convey the knowledge he has, which is a very valuable trait when somebody is learning.
There are many people out there, that are excellent competitors, trainers etc... but when approached to teach some of that, their ability to convey that knowledge is not so great.
The tapes have great value and shouldn't be a waste of money for anyone to get them.

Of Course i do not know M. Ellis not living where i do, But for those who frown on Guys who are Teachers of Dog handling are way out of focus as Phil is
Every one of us had to start from the beginning and not only with G.S Dogs all sports or hobbies you start from basics
Now with dogs you are handling a strong clever living animal and if you do not know how to get the best results then the novice can be in deep trouble, and in the end that same owner may turn against the Dog and get rid of it that is no good at all
Fact is everyone on here needs or needed help to do training of there dog the right way when they first went and got a G S dog, now there are many right ways but there are more wrong ways to train a Dog
Before i got interested in G.S dogs i was lucky to own dogs all my life but still owning one of these was different the Dogs own demeanor was different, Being a strong working line he wanted to be in control, now i knew that was not the way and i had to make him understand that i was the boss not him
The Point here is that a beginner with dogs would let it go on because he or she would not have the experince of handling dogs to help them and there we have a classic example of Dog running the handler
I am very much obliged that i had Guys with decades of experience with G.S dogs to put me right or to give me tips to better the relationship between the Dog and i, although i had had dogs overall longer than they but it was with there help i even bettered myself, and of course regarding the Schutzund sport which i am very interested in then these Guys who help me are among the best in Belgium so again i am lucky, for a beginner going into that certainly needs some guidence
So you cannot knock the likes of M Ellis if he does a good job and helps people learn to handle there dogs well then the sport bit is up to the individual after they have mastered the basic rules of Obed with there dog
