I understood your point, Gustav; just wanted to clarify for those here who may not understand the importance of genetics in the HD equation. Like you, I see no reason to villify this dog because of a single occurence of this problem, especially when it's unclear what influence the bitch had. The real travesty here is that the OP tried to breed the dog when there was every indication a problem existed and now he seeks to criticize someone else's decisions which, in my mind, were reasonable. I often find myself wishing people would be as diligent with their own breeding decisions as we try to be with our dogs.

Well, what the OP & his friend went through certainly was heartbreaking, & they have my condolensces. At such a difficult time many people get angry, & need to vent, & I suppose that this board is the place that they would naturally turn to. But people who read this post need to keep that in mind, that grief can cloud the mind...as can love, & these are bloodlines that many of us hold dear to our hearts...I know I consider these bloodlines some of the best. So it's also heart-rending to hear of this sort of problem associated with these lines. It doesn't mean that the sire or dam can not be bred...but that is another factor in the equation that needs to be considered. Thanks, jackie harris

Jackie, I agree with you that this situation is very heartbreaking, and can be very emotional, and even angry, but this place is not a place to vent suppositions that are not proven or factual because of the hurt. This forum is worldwide and many impressionable people read this forum and take the information out to the public like it is the gospel. That's how all the misinformation gets spread so often, so somebody has to step up and bring reality and pragmatism to the emotional diatribe . Otherwise, the less informed are running around the world spreading this nonsense.
