1-1.5k is the going rate for most VA dogs.  I paid lower than that for one dog just after he made a VA and was not proven yet. For a very good V dog, 600-1k.

Chris and Robin- I don't even want to crunch numbers, it'll drive me to drink! Suffice it to say I am in the hole by at least several thousand.

Chris, were those 3 puppies your workingline litter? It'll be a miracle if my bitch took, so I think I'm going shopping very soon...

Oh, and Robin- that male at the kennel is gorgeous and his little daughter is quite charming!

If you know anyone......they are both available.
I LOVE Carlos!........by the way....thats the dog's name.!

Kelly,
yes these 3 puppies are black and beautiful girls, Nolan's and Chuckie's daughters! Our 9-11 babies who were a couple of days early and therefore very special to us.

michael49, just in my short time on this board, I have found:

1. a guy who brought one dog from Belgium, another from half way across the U.S. and has sold pups at ridiculously low price and even given them away to get them into good working homes.

2. A lady who has invested quite a bit of money "where her mouth is" in her goal of a true "working" s/l dog and may or may not see a return on her investment or her dream come true.

3. a guy who has smuggled dogs out of a communist country. I have no idea the penalties he may have faced if caught.

4. A husband/wife breeder team who have sunk so much $ into their goal and ideal of the perfect GSD that there is no way possible they can ever recoup their investment and they are still full steam ahead in producing their ideal of the GSD. I have benefited personaly from my involvement with these breeders.

Everyone likes money, but these are the kind of people who do not do what they do solely for $.

I have a feeling that your #3 makes a living breeding and training dogs...........and he is successful at it.....

Better check his web site...........

BTW what is wrong with breeding for the betterment of the the breed AND making money?

Rik,Thanks for  the info, I think I can place some of the people you speak of,but not all. I know a few people who shell out big bucks in the dog world, but I can't say that its not about fame or money for them. However Silbersee made me see a clear picture of why someone would do it for other reasons. I just never thought of it from that prospective,[ as a hobby]. Hundreds of dollars, yes if one has it to spare, but thousands to me was amazing. I guess it all comes down to your love of the breed and how much money you can afford to spend.I'm also curious as to why you went from am. s/l to working dogs. Not any of my business by any means, just honest curiosity on my part since I seem to find the exact opposite true for me. Although I don't consider myself to be a breeder of either.I might make it over to CASC trials this weekend, I,m in Talladega. I know a few members over there.I knew more back in the eightys when the Hanrahans were there.I was a member for a breif period then, but thats a different can of worms. Anyway,if I make it and your there I'll introduce myself. If your competing, best of luck to you.

Hello Sitasmom, yes I do know that. I first heard of Alpine K9 from a  canine LEO at the Atlanta airport who was waiting for a CZ dog to come in (supplied by Alpine).

I found it very interesting talking to him and the ways the dogs were relied on in LEO work. It is a whole different perspective than what many of us here have. There is a very real need and use for dogs for this purpose and a reliable source to supply them. I don't see anything wrong with this.

Rik
