Jantie, enjoy reading your views.

However, I like Vegas and Bojan very much. Also Ilbo.

Best,
Rik

Thank you Rik!
Now please do not get me wrong!
I like the different individual dogs as well, but I also like the Westie of the gorgeous neighbour-lady and the Great Dane from the young girl across the street! But that is a different aproach. Here, we are talking about the history and the conformation, the health of the entire breed and its future. And we don't have the faintest clue how many GSDs end up in the petclinic, when we stare at the very few champions that are elected at the BSZS.
I have presented a couple of images on my weblog introducing 40 years of conformation in 1 glance.
Please tell me if you like the way Vegas (OUR SIEGER) is gaiting.

Here's a link for those of you who didn't see the show live: www.dailymotion.com/video/x8o2wz_vegas-du-haut-mansard-sieger-show-2_animals

Edit: that clip is from the 2005 Sieger show. If someone has a link to a more recent video, using slow motion, so you can really see what's happening with his gait, please post it. I'm sure there's clips out there, I just don't have time to search right now.

Compare that with Dingo v. Haur Gerro: www.youtube.com/watch

I know I'm not supposed to have an opinion on this, because I've never been to the sieger show, but on her website, Jantie shows two still photos side by side. They're titled: 'Bodo (v. Lierberg) gaiting', and 'Vegas plowing' !

Hope you will forgive me if I agree with her assessment!

"Plowing" - that's a good one!

Dingo had a beautiful flowing gait. Not likely to see that again any time soon......

Jantie said "Please tell me if you like the way Vegas (OUR SIEGER) is gaiting".

Hello Jantie, I am the worst possible person that you could ask this question too.

I am fresh from 25 years with the Am. S/L and still trying to learn the difference between the German S/L and W/L. so I am a very poor evaluator of what is correct or not.

Regardless, although Vegas is extreme in the rear, I do not find it offensive in any way.

I do think many of the S/L dogs are too large and am more concerned with this issue than extreme angles.

Apparently, Vegas did very acceptable in the protection phase and I will say again that I am very impressed with both Vegas and his son Bojan.

The GSD was developed to fill a multitude of needs. As long as character and health are priorities, then I have no issues with any dogs.
