its a matter of selection over generations , and yes vikram this can and will bring imbalanced dogs
some great sportdogs who are winning competitions are known to have serious problems off the field
quite a few west breeders recognize these problems and use czech and DDR dogs in their lines to get a bit of sharpness back in their lines
lack of sharpness gives problems in training that can be overcome by tricks , but you can only get so far whith tricks
if you look now in holland belgium and germany there are many dogs with czech and DDR influence with serious trainers and handlers
to name a few lines/dogs
everything over Ahron granit rose
amon patriot
elliot prevent
conneforde
finch loyola
arco severnej hranice
everything over robby glockeneck /verwin blitsaerd/haus larwin

what do you consider the Czech dogs?? They come from an east country...they have the balanced drives that Vikram talks about. Some are very top sport dogs, but many many Czech dogs are police dogs and do real work. Probablythere are more Mals and Czech dogs in police patrol work than any other dog today. So again I ask is the Czech dog East or Wesr???
by duke1965 on 28 August 2009 - 11:08
simple answer czech is east
breeding for 40 years separated from the westlines , no commercial goals just breeding dogs that can do the job
just because the czech breeding program used some DDR males in a certain period doesnot make them the same as the DDR dogs
I would describe the czech dogs/lines I have as dogs with the drives of a malinois and the brains of a GSD , with overall more sharpness than the average westline dogs
like I said earlyer there are exeptions both in east and west lines/dogs

I feel pretty much the same....I have all three....a DDR female that is five with typical strong defense dives, a Tom z PS daughter that is 3 with balanced defense and prey, and a West young dog with Nick, Asko, Lewis and Sirk, that is much higher prey.

DDR dogs were mostly produced for their defence drive because they were being used for border patrol work.they neede a dog that will bite and look intimidatig. West were mostly for sport.
Some of the best belgium dogs go back to one of the best and my favourite Robby Glockneck.Check the pedigree of some the well known Belgium dogs and you will see what i am taliking about.A good german shepherd dog is a good german sherd dog, and it does not matter what lines it comes from.have a nice one.

Yes, always talk about west-east-czech no one ever talks about the Belgians who in my opinion breed the best in the world, both GSD's and Malinios.

What are some current Belgian lines/males/ females; that are good?

Wasn´t the former DDR-dogs similiar to the czech dogs of that time, I mean they were both doing similiar type of work, or? Nowadays it seems many czech dogs are breed for IPO/SCH just like the west, the DDR-dogs are gone for long, it seems only a few pure and also good DDR-dogs left.

OK I love the "popular" line bitchiness.
I have had it all, west, east, czech, mix of them all and some extra to it.
Overall if you are lucky enough to pick a good pup out of a litter, if you KNOW the parent personally and you have seen them work. Then you pray that they reporoduce themselves. I would say.. that you have a nice chance to go forward with your dog.
I work with what is warkable, not the lines I pick because this is the NEW BEST on the market like Vikram is Constanly pushing forward. If you like your dog that much, please SHOW ME, SHOW ME THE DOG. I would LOVE to see all the dogs you are talking about. All the West dogs that are the best. have seen Max, nice dog. NOt a Wonder dog, a nice dog I have seen a lot of those where I come from.. they work on the streets not on a Schutzhund field. Maybe you can see them in ZVV trials..
There is trekendous amount of fabulous dogs out there. They are West, East, Czech.. enven other countries such as Belgium, Holand.....
It is all about the specific DOG, not bloodline. HOW many these famous Sires produced another World champ? not that many because a lot of buyers like to have the TM on the paper, shove it in the back yard and like to talk about the champ bloodline. The dogs are maybe good as pets, maybe not.
I say this.. Find a good dog, couple and start researching, the hips, the temperaments, the workability. I know few so called great dogs on the field and absolute desaster in normal life..it is all about the training.. baby training.
ASK those competitors which liene they like and Why. Do not ask the diferrence, ask about the reasons WHY They preffer the lines and which dog they would like to maybe look at.
Do not ask people on a board that probably do not do jack with their dogs.. go and contact people who have done something with few dogs. They will not bullshit you, they will not push you toward a breeder. Most of the dogs they compete with just come along...
Good luck
