I didn't get to see it!  My cable company is at odds with Channel 4 so it's basically a blank channel.  I didn't realize channel 4 was televising it as I had no problems tivo'ing the Derby and the Preakness.  I jumped in my car and drove to Best Buys to watch it, but found out once I got there that all their stuff is computerized...no local channels.  I was so bummed.   I came home and relogged on to TVG to see the results, which is when I found out Summer Bird won :-)

I'm hoping it will be on the news later so I can watch it.  ...   ...

Meanwhile, I'm keeping my eye out for the next time Zenyatta runs.  Now THERE'S a horse!!!!!  and a mare to boot!  Mike Smith rides her, and together they are unstoppable.

I'm sorry Mine That Bird didn't win, but I'm glad he was in the money and if he couldn't win it,  I was glad to see his half brother did.  I do hope they don't run the little gelding until he break down just because he can't be used at stud.

I agree Sueincc...   The reality is being a TB racehorse is kind of a bleak career unless the horse is a super star & intact.  I do have the guilt nudges thinking of all the horses that go by the wayside.  Even the famous one's are not secured a well earned retirement.  Do you remember Ferdinand who won the Derby in 1986...Eclipe Horse of the Year in 1987?  In a nutshell, he was put out to Stud in 1989, sold to a breeding farm in Japan in 1994 - where he was eventually sent to slaughter in 2002.  What a crime.

And yes YR....  I'm glad Borel was in the money too :-)

You can adopt a race horse, literally, after they're done running on the track for just a little $$. I'm thinking about getting one for my granddaughter, if she maintains her interest in horses & keeps going to riding school. You get a nice horse for a little money, & save a horse from possible slaughter. A really good deal for all involved. Her riding school has a couple retired race horses, they're both very sweet.  You just have to promise it a forever home & proper care. pay a small fee (couple hundred $$ to a couple thousand $$$, depending on the quality & soundness of the animal). There are several websites, if I can jog my feeble brain to remember, I'll post them. jackie harris

Just a guess, but I think my husband might protest....maybe I could hook him up with my daughter, she needs to shake off that loser she's got....she's blonde & slender, 2 cute kids who love animals, 1 of them rides, the other has a GSD....perfect starter family, no muss, no fuss!  jh

Oh yes, who could forget what was done with Ferdinand.  I was thinking of Black Gold, too.  He won the 50th  Kentucky Derby, but it turned out he was sterile so despite the fact that he had leg issues (quarter crack?) they still raced him until he broke down on the track with a broken leg.
