Many can live for a long time in the woods. When my ex and I split up in 1996, I moved with my gsd pup and my collie to an isolated house on 29 acres in the country. The "driveway" was a 1/2 mile road through a woods and over a pond. It was also 12 miles from our old home (kept by ex). My collie missed her home (they are known for that) and she took off. I was frantic and searched madly, of course. Long story short, she headed into the woods and took the long, long way home -- traveling about 80 miles altogether (sightings were used to map the trek) and for three weeks. My formerly chubby collie went from 80 to 65 pounds, but she made it. This little female may go a month or more and may do fine as long as someone comes along and lures her into a car before the winter hits.
Xando, I was going through the area, am far, far away now (eastern Idaho), didn't have the time to hang around and try. I think if someone goes out and spends the time, she'll come around. She came close to my car, as if thinking about hopping in. Then she seemed to change her mind, ran off again. It was getting late, I was hours from civilization and had to get going. I was heartbroken to have to leave. I hope the girl that stopped will find a way to save her, she did seem really concerned, she told me she had dogs at home. All I can do is try to think she's going to be okay, I'll never know, sadly.
Gsdtravels-how far was it from Portland? She looks to me like she did have a collar, I think you are right. She probably hangs by the road, waiting for her people to return. She's so pretty, I hate to think that she will die out there, lonely, frightened, hungry, betrayed. Oregonians....STEP UP! Somebody rescue this poor girl, if it's anywhere near Portland, I'll ask my son to give it a shot.....he loves dogs, & his wife used to work for a vet. Can you PM or E-mail me a map of where you were, so I can forward it to my son? I cut & pasted your picture- the one of her peeking out of the bushes--& e-mailes it with a plea to everyone I know in Oregon. Not much, but I hope it helps. Beats doing nothing! Thanks for feeding her, & for caring! jackie harris
It was Oregon Rt. 31, also known as Silver Lake Road (between mile markers 27 and 28), and Outback Scenic Byway. Not near Portland, much further south. Klamath County near the Lake County line.
Well, I e-mailed every one I could think of in Oregon, & then I spoke to my son & his friends, construction workers, I told them where the dog was & asking them to keep a look out for her, & they said they would, I suggested they offer her picture to local papers, but I can't be sure they will. I'll keep trying, tho. There are more ways than face to face to accomplish things, these days! jh
OK ==== the head of Animal control in Klamath County, Oregon is this guy, here is his E-mail address, please guys, let him know a lot of people care about this little girl, so she's not just shot to get rid of her! I forwarded her pictures to Bruce, hope you don't mind! Phone # isToll Free:

Have you sent this info to the K9Amber alert and other fido locators? Someone may have actually lost this dog while traveling through the area. Someone out there may be looking for her and hoping to see her on those sites. I can't think of all of them but also findtoto.com is another. She appears to be very young, maybe less than a year. I hope she can be rescued.
