Thanks everyone for your advice and support.

We've been free from diarrhea incidents for more than 24 hours now, due to amoxi and an indigestion med, and prescription canned food.  Her energy level's the same, it never changed.  A couple more days on the canned prescription food, then back to normal food.  Before this happened I was trying to put a couple more pounds on her, maybe I went too fast.  I'll try going slower.

I remember the last time I threw up and had the squirts..............didn't go to the doctor.....it just went away after a day or two..........same with the dogs, they puke, they squirt they get better.

If it lasts more then 48 hours or if they are completely lathargic, I take their temp. if its really high, they go to the vet.........

gues I just don't have pockets full of money to spend at the vet, for every time I or a dog get a little sick.

This lasted a day and a half before I went to the vet... I woulda waited another day, but the vet closed at noon Saturday and didn't open again until Monday.  If it wasn't going to clear up itself I didn't want to wait until Monday.

Guys, I'm REALLY in the dog house now.  I've been so caught up with watching Onni that... you aren't gonna believe this.... boy am I in trouble...

LOL!   Don't tell me he waited all day to tell you then pouted. Someday you'll both laugh about it.

How's Onni?

Unless the dog is lethargic, diarrhea usually doesn't bother me either.

I always feel bad for the dogs if I come home and find diarrhea and not know who done it.  :)  They all get fasted!  LOL

Luckily that doesn't happen very often, but can always tell when I walk into the outside hallway!

I don't let a few bouts of diarrhea bother me, either. But what made me take action with Ranger was the really nasty smell, and the presence of blood in his stool.

That, and him decorating the walls, the TV, the VCR, etc...

Also, I was planning to go away, and was afreaid he might do the same to the hotel room we were staying in!

yea, that would make me worry too.   luckily seeing enough of that sort of thing at the vet where i worked, i know when you can ride it out or to bring them in.

i always have flagyl and immodium on hand too.

my older girl has a bad habit of eating a rice bag (ie: bed buddy) if i leave it out unattended.  Holy diarrhea then!

""Don't tell me he waited all day to tell you then pouted. "

Yes exactly!  I thought he'd been acting grumpy or aloof all day, I must say I grumped at him in return.  Now I feel quite quilty!!!

Onni's doing great now.  Yes, it's likely this was either travel stress, or being in heat, or me trying to increase her food too fast, or who knows.  But I couldn't afford to take another day off work to take her to the vet Monday, so if she wasn't showing signs of getting better Saturday morning I had to get her to the vet before he closed at noon.

You can bet I'm kicking myself for not signing up for the free trial period of AKC pet insurance!

Not to mention kicking myself for forgetting hubbie's birthday...

They way he told me, poor dear, is he asked a few times what we should do for dinner, and whether he should go to the store... I was noncommittal... finally he said, "Well I'm just trying to figure out what I want to get from the store for my birthday dinner."

Talk about a guilt trip... of course it woulda been MUCH worse if he hadn't said anything at ALL...

Hmmm.... so what could a wife possibly give her husband for his birthday if she forgot to buy or bake anything special?  Hmmmm......

by Sam1427 on 04 May 2009 - 04:05

Yes, at least he said something before the day was over. I think I can guess what his birthday present was!

I tried the AKC pet insurance. No dog of mine ever needed it while they were insured. You are better off just putting some money aside every month into a dog health fund account or piggy bank.

Glad to hear Onni's better.

How do you guys get extra Flagyl? Vets around here don't want to give extra anything, they want the dogs brought in so they can can charge for that visit! What I have laying aound is unussed from other dogs issues in the past, so not enough variety.
