We did our first blind search setup in a rundown broke-up warehouse useing 3 perps, 3 different floors, 27,000 Square feet.

She did really good. The first floor perp she knew his location during a perimeter containment, second floor perp she did good, third floor perp was hidden in the rafters about 20 feet up .. she kinda got confused in a frenzy for a bit .. but eventually found him. Clock time with call offs inside the building was 3 minutes 19 secs.

I think she did really good her first time in the building. We plan to do this again May 5th useing the same building and 3 additional perps. Her time I hope to improve. It was fun.

In schutzhund it is a directional search. The blinds are on the field.  Really, an obedience exercize because the dogs pretty much know the helper will be in the last blind, but they must still  physically search each blind  the handler indicates and return to the handler after each blind search.  I believe what you are describing is sending the dog into a building to find the decoy?  So "blind" in the sense you and the dog do not know where the decoy is, but does not involve directional searching?   So, although not the same exercize, building or area searches are  still loads of fun!

Sue:

I prefer to teach the blinds hot and always keep in the back of there minds there may be a guy in the blind it helps the search and keeps them closer to the blind.

We start with 2 or three helpers in offset blinds and give the dog a bite, slip, down, by the blind and then call the dog to you center field then on to the next meanwhile the last helper slips into the next blind. After a short while the less helpers in the blinds the higher the drive goes at each empty blind to get to the next and find the helper.

Works well for the dog with proper drives.

With that method do you need to occasionally go back and reinforce with multiple helpers in blinds slipping sleeves?  I can see that your method will also insure a nice tight search too.

Hey Kathy, Clearly Ike enjoys the work......and still likes to flip you the bird every now and again too!

i dont know if i missed it or if it has not been mentioned.

when you think your search is  going good, try switching directions.  for example if you normally go right then left, try going left first.  played hell with that one with my current dog.  he looks at me as if to say, "no dad, we go the other way first."

other than that not bad,,,,,its the tracking i cant stand.

Amen to that john!  LOL   Though I'm like the tracking more these days...

And yes sue, Ike does still like to flip me the bird at times.  I guess that's what "retirement" is for!  And probably why I let him slide on it too, as long as he's having fun!

Actually in the video it we ran the blinds left to right.  Prior to that we always ran them right to left, at least at the club field.  The first time I ran them left to right with him, it was at a different field, oddly shaped, and in the dark, so that was fun!  We got it though.  Just had to reinforce things a bit.

Yes Sue on ocassion we slip in a extra helper or two and when building for a trial. Fiest has progessed well and a big part of that is our helper Clark Neimatelo he takes extreme care in sleeve presentation and timeing and how the dogs work he has a lot of time invested in our dogs and we are better for it.

Obedience exercise it is for sure.

A few times I've done a blind search with a helper on the field with me.  That's kinda cool.  Send the dog to a blind or two then to the helper for a reward.  Or have that helper follow you down the field as you run the blinds.  Working control and direction with more than one helper is fun.
