And yes, there are very nice German lines in the U.S.

Banana backed is the opposite of roach backed........the dog's head is way up in the air and its crop is very low and the impression is that there's a reverse curve from the back of the head throught the neck along its back and to the base of the tail. Like a sway backed mare only in the form of a dog.
One puppy in particular - God, I just don't know how it would walk! Made me sick to watch, its hind legs were so weak.
Some of the the dogs were more Euro lines and one that did well was a SchH 3 -
The judging seemed very political to me........I could find no consistancy.........

I have seen the videos of "Eggbeater action" in the rear legs and the one I met close up for a prolonged period of time -- well it was very sad and, to me, abusive. This was a young dog and the lady was telling me about her dysplastic GSD, because my female WL dog did develop HD, but shows 3 years after diagnosis, no real problems.
Anyway, she pulled a dog out of the car and I thought it was the crippled dog. And I went "OMG, I have never seen anything that bad!" The dog was wobbling side to side and walking on its hocks. She got very huffy and informed me that was her show Champion and there was "nothing wrong with this dog". How blind can we be to see nothing wrong with a dog that can hardly stand.
I knew another lady who had a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and she campaigned it to get its CH. This dog was afraid of its shadow - [she took the poor dog with us on a walk in the woods and while my dogs were careening through the countryside and diving into streams, her dog would not get 5 feet from her - she had to drag it through a small creek "oh, she hates getting her feet wet"] and was also dyplastic. She decided NOT to send the x-rays into OFA because she had to "get her money back" for all the work she put in.
I realize the AKC is no stamp of quality but you would think, at the least, they could put requirements for genetic testing and hip evalations as a prerequisite for registering a litter.
It also does seem some of the recent dogs *have* looked better than ones in the past few years, but the temperaments.......another thing, sad to see a dog from such a noble and brave breed scared of its own shadow.

Hero and Sita were given mixed review by the people walking by, most every one just had to stop and pet Sita, there's something about a coated GSD that everyone loves. She has such a pretty face. Many told me that I needed to trim her and start showing her... The AKC people put their noses up at Hero (mutch to my relief). The SchH people loved both Sita and Hero and didn't quite understand why we were at the event.
The breeder wants me to prepare Hero for SV conformation. This means I need to learn about stacking, gaiting, and the rest of the stuff........I have started training his........the breeder will do the showing. What I really need are some videos showing how SV is done.........Anyone know where I can find some? (not leerberg, I already asked).
I'll be glad when he either gets his title or we give up on it, and we can get back to SchH training....The politics is amazing and I'm going to feel really stupid in a dress and tennis shoes running in circles after a dog, trying to impress on a dog that has been paid to make sure that certain dogs win......

to prepare the pup for the few and far between sv conformation shows, I will be in the AKC ring running around looking like a complete fool in a dress and tennis shoes.......with banana backed, anteater faced competitors who will most likely win........OH boy, I just cannot wait.........I don't think even own a dress ........
the breeder will be handling for the sv show......
