If you take a person who is a professional runner and can run 5 miles/day pretty fast with barely any effort and ask them to just run 300 feet once, how will they do it? Geesh-they'll leave you in the dust because it's no effort for them to run 300' when they're used to doing 5 miles. Does that help put it into perspective? The working GSD is built to work and manage a large herd of sheep and can do it with little effort if the dog is already in decent shape. Giving him only 5-10 sheep is almost like a joke-he can run circles and do backflips over a handful. Lol. Not much challenge.
He's genetically programmed to run for miles in his flying gait and use his head without constantly being told commands to herd a big group of sheep. If he's put with just 5-10 sheep, then it's nothing to him.

This is explaining what DDR said earlier-you then asked what DDR meant.
DDRShep said: " This is often more difficult for good GSDs to do than little Paps, or laid back AKC showlines, because a working line is genetically engineered to have the power to work 100+ sheep, so its often like driving a Porsche to do the job of a Prius. So like the Porsche driver, the dog feels - WTF - there's not enough action here, I am just going to push the pedal to the metal and if the cops catch me, they can give me a ticket."
Then you, Happyday, asked: " But I am interested in the last statement on the DDR comparision.. I am not sure what you meant - like I said -I am not up on the lines - so fill me in so I might lol as well...."
So my recent post explains it a little more by using another example-the runner. Working line GSDs like DDR, West German Working, etc are bred for working large amounts of sheep, not just a handful. The West German show lines are typically more laid back.
Or are you meaning, what lines DDR is-DDR is East German dogs-great for police work, SAR, bomb detection, jobs like that. Nice big solid, blocky headed GSDs with alot of determination in them.
