Hello David
Of course the KC will have the final word on THE LIST. However, I still think that semantics will be avoided in discussion if we can get them to exclude together with their reasons for doing so. Supposing they leave epilepsy off of the list, or, any other important disease how will we bring it back to the fore? If THE LIST is in too general terms the KC will be in a position to bring closure too easily. They have to be made to argue their case just as we have to argue ours.
Kind regards
Mackenzie

Gustav is correct with his warning for us all to take heed not to go overboard with tests. No matter what you check for in DNA every living thing will have something lurking therein that we would like to avoid. For example we are all born with Cancer cells but that doesnt mean we will suffer from it, so when correlations are made between dogs and desease's we need to consider very carefully where to draw the line and not too readily discard and end up Pigeonholing as astutely pointed out by Gustav.
In the scheme of things I do believe we are infront of ourselves with this discussion. If we manage to get the KC to make Hip Scoring mandatory it would be a great step in the right direction. A lot more POSITIVE genetic discovery needs to be made before we jump on this bandwagon. I would like to see EPI, DM, Anal F, Auto Immune, retc, etc eliminated along with Hip, Elbows, Epilepsy, Dwarfism to name but a few, then what about shy, nervous or overaggressive Characters for these are marked as disqualifying faults in the WUSV standard along with severe HD, Monorchids, cryptorchids, deformaties, over and under shot mouths, Albinoism and dogs 1cm over or undersize. Where do we stop?
Being ever vigilant to remember that one mans meat is another mans poison. We really do need to tread carefully here before we create that many health checks that we price the majority of reputable hobby breeders out of the market along with the diversity of bloodlines, whilst on the other end of the scale the puppy farmers carry on as usual.

Perhaps we should start by just having ONE disease on the list - EPILEPSY.
This would be a powerful way of genuinely tackling the incidence of this appalling disease in all breeds of dogs. Let's get very serious and determined about EPILEPSY in dogs.

As PDE highlighted Epilepsy as one of the main diseases (i.e as with the Boxer) I guess the KC could be more susceptible to accepting it onto the list.
