Whatever your contact states a litter is   My male sired a singleton AI litter in Sweden this past fall.  I personally did not feel that constituted a "litter" and so the breeding is expected to be repeated this fall without additional stud fee charges.

I agree with Molly. The stud is paid for a service. If one pup is the result , then on pup is what your female carried. Most proven studs can be checked prior to mating and see if they have a good sperm count. The female is the one carrying the pups and she can have all kinds of things go wrong or may  just never have but one or two pups..

I do not think a rebreed is due . You should always make your contract apply to this common problem

Last year, I let a person use on of my males, only and last time, and she had to have the female AI 'd and xray showed only three pups.  THe bitch had 4 and she ate all of them but one.

Expensive pup. She was a very difficult bitch and not the studs fault on any count.
