I think a fair solution would be for the breeder to give you a female puppy.

"I think a fair solution would be for the breeder to give you a female puppy."
I concur.
Yes... there is the slight hope. I think it was on one of your old posts that I read about the 9 months.

Hi Gator
Since you state that the breeder assured you the pups testicles were down when you had him shipped, I think that would count as a verbal contract, even if not mentioned in the sales contract. I'd suggest contacting the breeder with a vets letter describing your dogs condition as proof and offer solutions that would make you happier, such as a partial refund or paying for neutering or a free/half price female puppy and then you have a basis for negotiation and the breeder can work out what she is prepared and able to do. You will have made it clear you want some redress since the dog was not as described on purchase, still an excellent companion dog which is, after all, what you wanted, but only worth a pet dog price. Depends rather on what you paid for him, what you could fairly expect to get back and still keep him - from a commercial point of view, he would still have a sales value as a neutered pet and if the breeder is more interested in balancing the books than your personal emotional involvement with the dog, she may well feel she must take that value into account if offering a replacement or refund.
I'd suggest letting him mature and then neutering him, there is a definite higher risk of problems with retained testicles in later life and it will make life easier for you when you get him a lady friend.
Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Gator, sorry to hear about your boys lack of equipment, maybe it will still happen, patience is a virtue!
Thank goodness you are already head over heels about him though, and are willing to do right by him. After all, its not his fault. I would question the breeder though, as monorchidism etc is thought to be genetic.
Forgive my ignorance now, but does it affect working or trainability at all? All my males were neutered as a matter of course to preserve harmony and prevent breeding accidents, and I didnt notice my males being any less macho or manly than intact dogs. One bonus of no nuts, the boys had fab coats!
Hope all works out for you

Well, it's late and the sleeping pills are just starting to kick in. But, I had to show this tidbit I just found.
The below is an excerpt taken from two warranty contracts of two separate and seemingly unrelated GSD breeders. While this was not included in my contract, it at least suggests that two breeders believe that some testicles may still drop as far out as 18 months.
"The male pups are warranted to have both testicles drop. This part of our warranty expires at 18 months of age. Puppies will not be replaced until 18 months of age. Testicles can drop as late as 18 months."
I certainly won't celebrate yet, but at least it's interesting.

Hi Gator
Whilst it has been heard of for testicles to drop after 9 months or more, I suspect it is likely that they had already dropped and the dog lifts them up while being handled, I had a dog that did that until he was around 7 months and then the testicles were too large to be withdrawn up the tube. Another possibity is less than honest exhibitors having a dog operated on to drop the testicles or having implants put in so they can show it, so the previously cryptorchid dogs suddenly becomes entire. Unless the testicles are small and undeveloped, the tube will be too small to allow the testicle through as it grows. In almost all cases, if the dogs testicles haven't dropped by 6 months old, they won't be able to.

Gator...Your boy is very nice looking...and I can certainly see why your so attached to him...No matter if his testicles will drop at 18 months or not...I would certainly contact the breeder and let them know about the problem...and see what they are willing or not willing to work out with you...Most breeders will be willing to work out something for you...whether it's replacing your dog with another puppy and you return the dog...or replacing your dog and you keep your dog...or giving you another dog at 1/2 price...But I would go in with the idea of just explaining the problem to the breeder and see what they'll do for you...
You have done the right thing in not contacting the breeder when your in a mood that would cause both of you discomfort...I would think about what you want to say and then do it in a calm manner...Most breeders want to do the right thing for their clients...
Good Luck...
~Bob~
P.S. Only in the United States do the breeder guarantee any puppies...In Europe they just don't...a puppy is a puppy and they're the unknown quantity...

Hm. I bought a male puppy from an Ohio world class breeder/seller and got sold a cryptorchid male who had never dropped by the time he was 16 mos old. My vet said, worst case scenario, give him up to 10 mos, and we did. When I confronted the seller about the issue, his prompt statement was, "I want nothing to do with you or your dog." I sold the male at a fraction of what I paid to a lady who wanted a companion. She didn't even want his AKC papers.

"Ohio world class breeder/seller"
OK, since we don't know who this is, just don't buy a dog from Ohio.
