Teri, I had no clue my first shepherd pup (back in the early 80s) had HD until he was 11 months old and started howling uncontolably one night. Still makes me cry to even think about it.

I thought in cases of mild HD the symtoms don't manifest themselves until the dog is older. At least that is what the vet told me when I had x-rays done on Murphy. He was fine until a few years ago and now at 8 yrs can barely walk. I was asking about the supplements more for Murphy than Trigger.

As for the new pup Bella, if not being able to jump is a sign of HD, she will pass OFA with flying colors.

When I got my replacement puppy I was a nervous wreck.  I almost didn't get her but I'm so glad I did. :o)  She is only 6 months old so I'm still constantly watching her movement in fear and hope at the same time.  So far all seems well, I keep my fingers crossed and pray often. :o)  She is doing well in her training, is a joy and appears to be healthy in every way.  I love my GSD's but I gotta tell you having something like HD steal your dog from you is very painful.  My 18 month old GSD has been strong as a bull, full of energy never any problems from day one.  I was very surprized and heart brokewn when I found out what was wrong with Chip.     I'm thankful to have two healthy female GSD's and can only hope they remain healthy and smart for a number of years. :o)  I just had back surgery and hope to resume training with them soon since I already have cabin fever and need to get out.

Let us know what the Vet says.  I bet Trigger just over did something this strong breed often does because they are so driven to work and please their owners. :o)
