This coming year (2009), I hope to get her in the ring for conformation (dunno how she will be taken, seeing she's not got the extreme conformation of a full show line, but still acceptable natural stacking ability) and maybe have her prepped for a BH if things go well (I don't train much with rotten cold weather going on-sorry) and I can find WDA events where I can do such within a reasonable driving distance. No big current breeding plans for her since she's not even 15 mos old yet. She's pretty mature in her behaviors (I've got a male a month older than her who still gallops into the house like he's a 10wk old puppy-lol).
To be honest with you all, I thought she was a nice pup when I first picked her (her mother was shipped from overseas pregnant with her), but I had no idea what she would develop into. She was the most outgoing of 3 other blk/reddish tan female pups I had to pick from.
I don't have a pic readily available of her as a little pup, but I have one of her brother, whom I also picked (but sold to someone else). Here's a pic of him at 12 weeks old-very blocky masculine head-hope it shows up. Sorry, tho-no recent pics of him (but I bet he's 90lbs or so-he was a big boned fella, too).

I will be able to do a nice show/working split combo breeding involving the Nick/Chuna/Fero lines with Yasko/Rikkor etc. Black working mother, blk/red show father-both of impressive breeding (I own both). The breeding isn't exactly like my girl's here, but similar since she and the black female I'm speaking of breeding here ARE related closely.  But I will have to see some definite serious interest for such before I will plan on breeding that direction. They're all young yet, so no rush on anything to me. I just got paperwork in the past month from the WDA on getting hips a-stamped. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/para.utkoma?fadir=520269&modir=526986.

Hello all,

I thought that I would not really post too much here on this board anymore, but this thread peaked my curiosity since combining showlines and workinglines is a goal which we (my husband and I and a couple of friends we have abroad) are aiming for. But to be successful, you need to pick the best candidates for breeding possible.

Have a look at my upcoming litter: www.vomsilbersee.com/chuckiearko.html As a matter of fact, I am picking Chuckie up from the airport today. She had a nice vacation in Germany where she was bred and the next day won the Regional Combined Working Clubs Schutzhund Match under SV Vice President Heiko Grube. My black pearl produces super dogs: BSP participants, the 2008 German Vice Universal Sieger and V-rated structure. And Arko's past two progeny groups at the German Sieger Show have just blown me away. And no, I am not fishing for sales. According to ultrasound, she will only have 3 puppies and if they are all girls, they are all spoken for already. Plus, I have a request from Germany as well. So, I am unable to take any reservations until I know what I actually have.

And if it does not work out with this litter, I will try these kind of combinations again. If more people would go for it, we would not have so many problems in our breed.

Chris

Chris, i have always thought your female was excellant, and the sire you have picked for her latest puppies is outstanding, imo. I am sure you will get exactly what you want from this combination, Chuckie's son Onyx is a very handsome lad too, good luck with your puppies when they arrive. liz

Actually Chris, YOU were to be my next example (victim? ;-) as I have been following you and your Chuckie with much interest. Now you have come and volunteered yourself, brave Lady :-))))!

I have only made one show x working cross myself. Granted, the working line female had Dingo Haus Gero in the 5th generation, and both parents went to Uran, but in the sixth generation so not close enough to have much impact on the results. The balance of the female's pedigree was solid working lines and the father was 100% show. Only one of the pups ended up in a working (SchH) home, but I am told that dog is doing quite well with his owner, training with a world-class helper. (who shall remain nameless here :) another is in training for SAR, but didn't show me enough in protection to warrant going on towards titles. All are very good looking dogs, no structural issues or disqualifying faults. Hybrid vigor? I just hope the owner of the one in training goes on and gets a SchH title so I don't have to take guff about the experiment forever from my friends on both sides of the fence. LOL

I can't comment much on mixing American showlines with W. German lines, work or show, except to say that I know there are some that have had success on the trial fields and limited success in the German show ring. However, the only American-type  dogs I have ever seen that impressed me in the work PERSONALLY were Lee Pulis' dogs (descended from UK dogs!?) back in the 90's.  Lee's dogs wer in fact born here in the US I believe, not from German parents, but theydefinitely didn't look anything like the over-angulated, ski-jump backed specialty-type dogs we saw so many of in CA in the 80's and 90's. Lee's dogs were far more athletic...

Further, I can't comment on Eastern European (excluding East German)  x W. German working line crosses either, as I am not familiar enough (IMO) with foundation dogs from most of the former Soviet Union beyond the former East Germany.

Good luck with Chuckie Chris! I am looking forward to following her litter's careers. :-D

Chris Okay, so say this litter does not work out. What happens to those pups? You say you will keep trying these combinations. You just want to keep on producing Shepherds that maybe should not have been born in the first place? It seems like you would be adding a lot of dogs to the already over populated breed in 'hopes' of getting an over average working/show line mix. Anyone see the point I am trying to make?
