Pharaoh

by Pharaoh on 17 November 2008 - 04:11

1)    vombanachk9.homestead.com/   My 14 monh old male is from vom Banach K9. I visited there twice and approve 100% of the quality of life for the dogs.. Pharaoh has started in Schutzhund and the trainer is pleased with his drive and temperament.  I am a mediocre handler, don't expect to see us on any podiums. Pharaoh is on the database www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/551839.html

2)  www.schraderhausk9.com/  I visited there once and Jean is very nice and takes very good care of her dogs.  They have lots of space and are in very good condition.  Lux gorgeous and she has some very fine females.  I would buy a dog from her.

3) www.spartanville.com/intro1.html  I have not been to Connie's place myself but have talked to people who have been there and met Puck in person and they couldn't say enough good things.  I have corresponded with Connie as she is a nurse and knows a lot about medical issues both human and canine.  She is very kind.

4)  voneintz.ipower.com/page14.html   Tammy Riley is a very dedicated SAR participant with her German Shepherds.  she will have a litter available this winter from her stunningly gorgeous Miya von Linmarc and Aron v Poppitz.  I have never been to Tammy's place but I know others who have and I have been seeing pictures of her and her wonderful family (canine and human) for quite some time.  This will be a fabulous breeding.

5) www.justk9s.com/contact-information/  Kim has a stunning litter on the ground right now Rookie (full DDR male) and Umi (showline, substantial, great temperament and nice blocky head).  Rookie is a great dog, the total package, looks, temperament and drive.  I have been to Kim's place and her dogs have a great life.  I recommend her highly.  Here is my favorite picture of Rookie.

He was only 1 year old in this photo.

I don't know much about the kennels you've been considering except I have not heard good reports on #3 Alt-Ostland.  I would recommend Jean Schrader.  I've spoken to her and she is simply delightful.  Her Luxx is absolutely a gorgeous dog and Jean is an honest lady; which in my book speaks volumes.

Hi maxandruby,

I am very familiar with Von Hena-c kennel as I have used Xander Von Hena-c as a stud with my females,
I would recomend Pam Lake she is honest and easy to talk to, and also is producing some really great dogs.

Xander has his Canine Good Citizen and BH and is working towards his ScH1 title, he is also one handsome dog.

I own 2 of his daughters, Dana Von Ryans and Tessie Von Ryan, I am attempting to train Tessie
in the bitework department & title her, she's got what it takes, I have only done basic obedience
with my dogs, and one of my dogs(Theo von Ryan) visits with the elderly as a therapy dog, Theo
is related to the von-hena-c dogs, people who have pups from me have come back to me, they
have been very happy temperament wise.

I myself have raised my own litter of 8>>kids that is, and have been very busy, now that kids are
all growing up & leaving the nest it leaves me with more time to train in different avenues.

Good luck with finding the right dog for you, I just love the East German bloodlines, and there
are many many to choose from, I feel them to be very intelligent, be prepared for lots & lots of
socialization starting them out as soon as you bring the little bugger home!

Can not say enough nice things about Jean from Schraderhaus K9.  There are none nicer. She cares as much or more about her dogs as anyone. Very helpful if you are having any health issues with a dog even if it not from her.

I know of more than a few that own dogs from her and they are all incredibly pleased. Jean is top notch and you will gain a friend for life.

Maxandruby,

If your looking for a pet quality "work line" gsd then the four kennels you've listed would suffice. If your looking to perhaps work your dog then look else where. Just curious why ddr line?

As some posters already mentioned Jean of Schraderhausk9 has some decent stock. I like both of her males Argo and Lux although Argo is not ddr but rather Slovak like me...lol. The only question I have with her breeding station are her females. They seem rather your average run of the mill breeding females but I guess she can tell you what she breeds. She has a bigger operations compared to the other four kennels that is also my concern.

I would also recommend looking at www.ehretgsd.com. Daryl is honest and can tell you what he has or don't have. Last but not least a lady that doesn't need any introduction is Dari from www.vandenheuvelk9.com although she breeds mostly Czech lines with some ddr lineage she has hands down some of the best working dogs I've seen. Dari has an impeccable ability to match you up with the right dog. It'll be well worth your time to give her a call.

I would not hesitate in the least to recommend looking into Spartanville Shepherds..  Connie is very honest and knowledgeable.  She has been breeding for many years and has many contacts that have guided her.  She would love a chat to "fill you in".  I have been to her place and have even had the opportunity to share a wonderful dinner with her.  I have also used Puck for breeding purposes and hope to repeat.  I cannot possible say enough good.

Best of Luck to you,

Maxundruby,

Unless I missed something,  out of twenty five ( 25 ) responses only djon bothered to ask you were looking for in the dog.  Are you a sport enthusiast, family pet, personal protection, SAR, LE, etc.???  Be specific as you can.  When you get advice from people that do not even know what it is you want, it has little value other than letting you know something about the breeder.

No one can give you advice you until they know exactly what  you are looking for.  As comonly happens on this site, you will hear criticism or high opinions from A-Z on most kennels.  Some with  first hand knowledge, some from what so and so told a friend of a friend etc.  This is not discounting those that have dealt with the kennels you mentioned.  These are valuable insights worth listening to if the advising person is knowledgable about  working dogs.

Bottom line, look at who is recomending, who is bad mouthing, and take it all for what it's worth.  I am familiar with a few of the kennels and can offer you my opinion from first hand knowledge if I know what you want, but ultimately you need to research, study, and visit kennels.  But most important, you need to figure out exactly what it is you want in a dog.  It appears that you like the look of the ddr dogs.  Am I correct ?  If this is true than you also need to understand what these dogs are more likely to bring to the table.  They have more of a tendency to be civil.  If you are interrested purely in sport, than you might want to do some research in that direction.

I will share my thoughts and observations of the few ddr kennels you mentioned, if you wish to provide more information in a Private message,  but not on this forum.  I appreciate your situation and hate to see someone not happy with the dog they get.  One other thought is your location.  You should be prepared to visit the kennels.  There are too many things you can see and learn in person that you won't from a web site.

Good luck

I think regardless of what you are looking for in a dog, it is still important to choose a breeder who has a solid reputation. It may just be my personal preference, but I like to see a breeder that actually DOES things with their dogs, be in titling in SchH, Obedience, Tracking, Agility, etc. because it shows that the breeder is competent and knowledgable at not only whelping a litter of puppies, but also training and handling dogs and showcasing this breed for what it was originally bred for.

Regardless of what you want to do  with your dog as a puppy buyer, a good breeder will choose the RIGHT puppy to suit your lifestyle, and will let you know if they won't have what fits your needs and recommend you to someone else.

I am fairly familiar with most of the breeders that have been listed, the only ones I can CONFIDENTLY recommend are Schraderhaus, Truehaus, and Holtzberg. None of the others have the qualities that I myself would look for in a breeder, whether they have pretty dogs or not. IMHO, most of them also charge way too much for their puppies.

Oh and to the person that wasn't sure, the answer is NO, Hena-C does not work their dogs.
