I havent gotten the tests results back yet the second time around. The first time they did it they didnt find anything as far as coccidia and giradia.
I will now probobly fast him until the morning and cook him the chicken and brown rice like you 2 suggested. What is the name of the probiotics called at tractor supply?
Once he is good and cleaned out and stuff and i go back to kibble which one should i try? Like i said im on orijen right now which a few people have suggested it could be too rich for my dog. Should i try INNOVA LBP? Natures Variety kibble? INNOVA Evo if its safe to feed at 5 1/2 months. or does it really matter just start trying and see which one works.
How long should i feed him the chicken and rice thing for? Or could i just fast him for a day and try a different kibble?
So many choices i have no clue where to start.

The One,I pm you early this morning but aside from that, is it not a better idea to give him WHITE rice INSTEAD of brown since it is easier for him to digest.Brown rice is very, very hard for them to digest as it is nevermind that this little one is not feeling well. You dont have to take my word for it,just give your vet a quick call OR a friend that knows a little about nutrition. And by the way to the previous posters who suggested the brown rice, this is in NO WAY ment to go against you personally.Just thinking of the well being of the pup.Remember that we are dealing with a little one thats probably not feeling that great.

Domenic,
No offense taken. I prefer brown rice for several reasons, but mainly, because it is just better for them
I have never had an issue with it, and my vet recommends it to clients.
Personally, I wouldn't even do chicken and rice, I would fast for a day or two, and then start him on kibble.
He will need some fluids during this time---gatorade(G2 is better, no sugar), or pedialyte. Keep him hydrated.
On that note: One, are you on well water or city water? Might be bacteria in your water making him sick, as well.
I won't recommend one kibble over another, because in the end, they are all decent, and that is a decision you have to make. I can't make it for you. I can only tell you what I have fed, what I would feed and what I won't feed. I have fed Barking at the Moon, Wolf King(not grain free), Evo, Nature's Variety, Timberwolf, C.O.R.E., and Taste of the Wild.
I wouldn't personally feed C.O.R.E. again. Nothing wrong with it, per se, just my dog was really, really gassy on it.
I am not sure what the probiotics is called at Tractor Supply. And, I just had surgery yesterday afternoon, and frankly don't feel likeing walking into the dog room to look. Forgive me. Any probiotic will work. Go to the health food store if nothing else. Heck, WalGreens carry it.
Here is what it boils down to....I get the feeling you want someone on this board to tell you what to do....We can't do that for you. It is your dog, and you have to make the decisions based on your knowledge base. Learn from the board. Take the good with the bad. "Google" things----great place to learn, the internet is. Lots to learn there.
But, internet boards are not the place to get medical advice(I don't think anyone here is a vet, and it would be unethical to give medical advice without seeing the dog.) or to have someone tell you what to feed your dog.
I have learned what I have learned over the years through trial and error. Luckily, you don't have to commit the "errors", but know that not everything will work for every dog.
That is the key to all this. What works for my dog, won't work for Preston's dog, what works for Preston's dog might nto work for Hodie's dogs, what works for Hodies dogs might not work for your dogs and what works for your dogs might not work for my dogs.
Research, research and more research, then bite the bullet and do it. Sucks, I know.....I feel overwhelmed sometimes when I start looking at dog foods, etc...but, I have found something that works, so I stick to it.
Sorry for being a bit sharp---I had surgery yesterday on my hand, and am in pain, and it wasn't a good experience, overall, so take what I say, if a bit sharp, with a grain of salt!

Well i went ahead and bought the EVO red meat bites. It was between that and a couple of NB flavors including a all organic one and TOTW the bision flavor. Around 8 toinight he will have been fasted for 24hrs. so im going to feed him again. I will be giving pumpkin and non fat plain yougurt to him after every meal until i can get to the vet and talk about probiotics and the test results. Hopefully i get lucky and he will do good on this.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

TY.
So just called the vet the antigen and fecal float and parasite check all came back neg. which is a relief cuz i would hate to be dealing with giradia or coccidia.
So now blood test is in order.
What i dont understand is after 3 or so months on Orijen is why all of a sudden he would be having negative reactions to it i.e loos stools.

If nothing has changed, it probably ISN'T the food that's causing the problem.
Out of curiosity, did your vet run a TLI test?
by TheOne on 03 October 2008 - 20:10
I havent gotten the blood work done yet but i will be requesting a TLI test along with a Folate test. What do you mean if nothing has changed it probably isnt the food?
Like i said he was doing fine up until a couple of months ago was whining to get out of his crate and had diarehha all day and since then his poops have been very inconsistent. Sometimes reg. sometimes damn near all liquid sometimes liquid toward the end. Like i said before a few have suggested that Orijen might be too rich for my pup.
Please elaborate on what you mean about if nothing has changed.
Thanks everyone for your info/support

I meant that if he's been on that food for several months and has been doing well, why is he having a problem with it all of a sudden? Not saying it's not possible, just seems unlikely. You're doing all the right things. I'm sure you'll figure out whats up with him, and I hope it's simple.

well you know now that im looking back and trying to determine what it could be he does seem to itch/nibble on himself a lot (like where he uses his front teeth to scratch himself) so much so that now i have found i guess it could be a open wound on him. Its not bleeding or nothing just scabed over wound so now i got another thing. Like i said im in the proccess of switching him from Orijen to EVO and i will now most likely ask for an Allergy test to get to the bottom of this once and for all
I always get depressed/frusturated when something about his health comes up. I just dont feel like doing anything with him when he is like this no training or anything. Bad habit i guess.
