I go back to 6/7/8th gens but in this ped you dont have to, how can it be healthy to have 15 lines in the 4gen back to one bitch Palme. As already stated both sire and dam need to carry the faulty gene, but no doubt if Lily checks the female line will also be inbred.

your right funky ,it is sad,
I also feel really bad for the owner of Zasko (who btw is fine and fit as a fiddle),
JRD is a new one to me and I have been reading up on it. I will be testing for it ASAP. (im officially skint now lol)
please don't forget that JRD was not well known until recently and many breeders still don't know there is a test for it!!!
my vet has been in practice for 50+ yrs and hasn't seen a single case of JRD in a GSD, that is not to say that it doesn't exist.
I hope that all mine test clear, if not I will do as I promised.

yes,it's a new one to me also,if it is as bad as some say it is terrible,as we have enough health issues. What i find worse and unacceptable is "big" breeders who know thier dogs have this, then pass them on to someone else who then innocently continues to use them in thier breeding, and public stud.Lets all hope it's not as rife as we are led to believe. liz

All lines have problems- the key is not to double up on the problems, when breeding different lines together! That requires honesty.
