I am going through almost exactly the same thing right now, a young male who was in beautiful coat condition suddenly started developing red itchy patches on his tail, back legs and thighs, and the hair started falling out in chunks. It progressed very rapidly. There were many red spots like small bumps and scabs on the skin but not obvious pus, though the vet thinks it is a staph inection too. Mites and fungus were eliminated as possible causes. Well, he was not shaved but given antibiotics, antiseptic shampoo, and the vet also told me to give him a skin supplement that contains omega 3 and 6 in to boost the immune system and help counteract stress. I had also applied fipronil spray to this dog but this was some time before the problem arose. It seemed to come on after a show we went to (he had won first place!). It was a really long journey home, the car broke down in the night and there was no opportunity to take the dogs out of their travel kennels, he had peed in his and I bathed him the next day, maybe the urine or the shampoo started it or maybe the whole experience was stressful and this lowered his defences. It started as small red patches on his back feet that I at first tried to treat with an antispetic cream but it then spread quickly to the tail and thighs. The front part of him is fine! Anyway, I have some good news in that he is now 6 days into the antibiotic treatment and fine hairs are already growing back where he was bald and there do not seem to be any new patches, so fingers crossed for a full recovery with no recurrences... Good luck with yours, Aristian...

Keflex is generally the drug of choice for superficial pyoderma in dogs.  Sometimes the meds will need to be continued for a month or longer. Many times this is the result of an allergy and may not clear up entirely  unless you first treat the underlying cause.

Your right Blitzen my girl will be on oral anti biotics for another 2 weeks. This is a very nasty infection though. Very painful for the dog and very painful for the owner to look at his/her dog in this condition. The pus is completely gone and only the scabs and wound marks remain. These will also go away with, actually Blitzen the vert saud that the only reason why she got this deisease is because of her immune system. She is not the allergic sort. He told me to give her omega 3 and 6 aswell. Also gave me a multi vitamin .

You can add one zinc tablet with the omega 3,  zinc boosts the immunity, this vit combo worked wonders on my old dog who had a compromised immune system, not crazy about Frontline, I am using Advantage, you need to apply every 4 weeks, or consider going to a powder flea product if dogs is very sensitive just have to be more diligent in applying regularly , I think it is less toxic on the skin also think to much of  these chemicals dry the skin and sheps being prone to a PH sensitive skin, react sometimes by the skin drying out, Evening primrose oil is also excellent for chronic dry skin many sheps scratch when changing coat and skin are more vunerable to products over these coat change periods, told by regular vet to change foods etc and flea products, in the end after all this went the Homeopath route-problem solved By using the evening primrose alternated with omega 3 each one a day  and one  zinc tablet , may not work but if all else fails worth a try.

Zinc tablets? Right will get them today. So zinc tablets with omega 3, sounds good.

AristianM, allergies are autoimmune diseases.  Allergies are far more serious than most GSD owners/breeders realize. Why does you vet say she has a compromised immune system? At any rate, I hope it clears up and doesn't recur and that the spray was the cause of the pyoderma.. That would certainly be the best scenario. The zinc, etc sounds like a good idea.

Glad to hear that your girl is doing much better!!! I am also in a very bad area with ticks. I don't put anything anymore on my dog's to get rid of those nasty blood suckers. I use all natural nematodes that you spray with a water hose all over your yard. I got them a year or so ago and have NOT had any problems with ticks since, and I live on 5 wooded acres. Just google nematodes and it will pop up. I swear by this product!!! and no I don't work for them either.

But Blitzen her allergies dissapeared for good 6 months even though it was summer season. This happened right after she got sprayed the new fipnoril spray. Her immune system seemed fine but then i dont know why she got this....anyway she is a lot better. The vet said that this wont recur again. Kelly M Shaw ticks are only a problem when she steps out of the house for training. Ticks are not a problem inside my house or my yard. Thats the only reason why i get her frontlined. So any suggestions to improve the immune system, the vet said it fine before because her allergies stopped. She suddenly got a fever and within three days had pyoderma. Vet also gave a products which has omega 3, vitamin A, Vitamin E and Vitamin D3. He also gave me a multi vitamin that has all the B vitamins, vitamin C. This is the only vet in my city that has immense knowledge and is also the best rotweiller breeder in town. He actually recommended a raw diet. That coming from a vet is incredible!

That's good, aristian, I was just curious why your vet told you her immune system was weak. If the allergies don't come back, that's  a good sign that her immune system is now strong enough.

Add raw liver to her diet with her food...introduce it a little at a time...Fox News had a dietician on yesterday telling humans they need to eat liver....Liver contains more than we need of everything and dogs love it...calves liver is the best imo.

Keep the oils of salmon, or cod or fish and keep omegas 3 in her all the time....gsd need extra more than any other dog...olive oil is a natural and can be put on all dog food ...one tablespoon...good for digestion and men with bald heads. and elbows , too....lol

google   olive oil and it has to be   extra virgin   no blend..
