Two Moons

It must have been Don Corleone's post that he was going to send over Lucca Brazzi LOL

The unfortunate thing is that this GSD world is chock full of scam artists hey look at the front page of this forum unscrouplous breeder post.  You try and do your homework but in a lot of cases it might be better to go to church and lite a candle.

I have a funny feeling that Acheron will get his AKC paperwork real soon     Too bad it had to come to this an e-mail to expalin the problem after 6 months should have been in order.

Who cares if the breeder is so busy she can't find the time to shoot off an e-mail.  I'm sure she found the time to deposit the check for two grand real quick.   If you pay two grand for a pup you are entitled to first class service this is a poor excuse for second class service.

Acheron, maybe you need to be informed of some things that goes on in bringing in a dog from overseas and the TIME that it takes to recieve all paperwork, etc.
1. Once payment is recieved and shipping is complete between the overseas breeder and US new owner, the foreign dog papers usually arrive after the dog, especially if its a puppy. This can take anywhere from a week to a few months and varies from circumstance to circumstance.
2. Once the foreign papers are recieved and have been properly signed by the previous owner and put into the current owner's name, the new owner has to send off to the coutry the dog came from, and recieve what is called a Besheinigung. This is an official letter from the dog's home country registry that officially acknowledges the 'new' owner as the current owner. The AKC will NOT process AKC paperwork for a foreign dog without this paperwork. Average time to send off for a Bescheinigung and get it back is 1 to 2 months.
3. Once the Bescheinigung is recieved by the new owner from overseas, they then have to submit for AKC Foreign Dog Registration. This entails a copy of the foreign papers(with official pedigree), copy of the Bescheinigung, photos of the dog, and the application. The AKC, depending on how many foreign dog registration applications they get at the time they get this paperwork, can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to issue AKC papers for an imported GSD.
4. Once this is done, the AKC (effective March 2006) now requires all owners of imported GSDs to send in a DNA sample to them for profiling before the new owner is allowed to register any puppies from the dog with the AKC. DNA profiling averages 6-8 wks for processing. If by chance the sample submitted isn't enough for them to get a DNA profile on the dog, then the AKC sends a letter 8wks after the first submitted sample and requests a resample. Once the resample is sent, it can be up to another 2 mos before the DNA profile is complete.

Online AKC litter registration is only available for GSDs who have done been AKC registered, and if imported, have their DNA already on file. It is not available for foreign-bred litters or litters from a freshly imported dog.

With all this said, maybe you can see where it CAN legitimately take some time to get these things done, especially when one is also working hard to prep and train for important showing like Karen (Traumhof) does & has been doing. Sherry is an outstanding male of excellent caliber, pigment, & personality. Yes, I own one of his sons, also. No, he didn't come from Karen, but from Karl. And yes, my boy is German SV & AKC registered both-no problems getting either. My correspondence with Karen has been nothing but positive and pleasant. Do you think it might be possible you jumped the gun on this? And you posted a negative comment under Sherry concerning your issue? Wow. That was uncalled for.

Like I said it was poor comunication on your part. Speak slowly and clearly, write e-mails in a big letters and highlight important portions. :)

If you want an answear you need to start by asking a direct question.

Here's a good policy for breeders to follow in regard to customer relations.

When one of your puppy buyers sends you an email with pictures and "mentions" that they don't have their papers yet, just assume that ........

THEY ARE GETTING WORRIED!!!!!!

Your puppy buyers are usually total strangers. The world is filled with rotten, cheating scammers. They want to be reassured.

Here's the solution, hit that REPLY button on your email program. Thank them for the pictures. A small comment like "Well we got the German end sent to the SV, in progress, or completed and now on to the tedious, time-wasting AKC. Don't worry, it's business as usual in the AKC world. I'm used to it taking lots of time.

The reply doesn't have to be long or complicated-just do it. Then, you won't be featured as a topic on the Pedigree Database looking to blame someone else for ...............????

First off this should of never of hit the message board, Traumhof has a phone number, and dose get back to you when a message is left.

I have a Traumhof puppy and if you go to the back of your owner's manual the breeder gave you with your new puppy. In the back were the contract  it says " If you buy a pet quality puppy, you agree to spay or neuter your pet by the time he/she is 10 months old. You will not receive your pup's final registration certificate until you send us proof of spay/ neuter".

Patty Jones who will be getting another Sherry puppy.

katjo74, I already responded to the issue of time.  Time was never the issue.  Lack of communication was the issue.

Pjones, it would not have reached the boards if I had received any contact whatsoever in the last 3 months.  If you refer to the website, it states that emails are preferable to calls and will receive a quicker response.

I did not intend for this to turn into a debate over Traumhof's integrity.  I already stated above she has great lines and the treatment of her pups is top-notch.  Lack of communication was the only issue. I simply wanted some advice and I thought perhaps I would hear from another Traumhof client who could give me an update on the situation, since I was not obtaining any info from the breeder herself.

It is a shame that this is the only way I received any reply whatsoever but I'm not going to take the blame for it.  I sent 3 emails over 3 months and received no reply to any of them.  I am sure that between now and May, 1 email could have been sent alerting me to the delays mentioned above.

I understand a breeder's primary business is dogs.  However, it is a business and as such communication is important both before, after and during the transaction.

Acheron,

Did you buy the pup on a limited registration?

Just curious.

Just back from training my dogs.. and someone told me my initial post was cut off.. I must have gone over on length.

I think it cut off at "especially during"... which should have read "during training/show season/whelping times. I DID respond to the person's initial query about his puppy's papers.  I also replied whenver he asked a question about the puppy's health/training.. what to do when she didn't like the vacuum cleaner etc. Usually when I get an email with photos in it, I at least reply quickly to comment on them. However, when I scan email from the road, I don't always reply.

I answered his first query, told him I would mail them as soon as I got them, and no, I didn't check back in with weekly/monthly updates. I didnt know I needed to. Everyone else seemed content to wait along with me.

Had this person phoned me and either spoken with me or voice mailed me to say "This is XYZ & I am really upset that my papers are not here yet", I would have addressed it. I suppose since I understood that these things can take time and I wasn't frantic, It didn't occur to me that he was! The calls I got from friends today was the first I knew of how concerned he was.

As I said earlier, the papers did come last week & will be mailed. And to the person who suggested the guy  will get his papers now because he slandered me on teh board... I assure you; it has nothing to do with that. He is going to get them b/c the AKC has sent them. And he will get the AKC postmarked envelope addressed to me, along with it, so he can see that I indeed just got them myself.

by Acheron on 14 August 2008 - 02:08

We were not frantic about the papers but rather that we had no contact from the breeder for 3 months, despite the 3 emails that we sent.  If you bought a car and 6 months later you didn't have the title and the seller stopped corresponding with you, you would become concerned as well.  We were not and could not be aware of what information was given to the other families. I have replied to the comments in regards to time, etc. twice now so I won't do so again.

We are happy to wait until both the AKC and USCA registration are both sorted.

Sometimes picking up a phone is a good idea.

Emails are really not the best form of immediate communication.  Bantering back-and-forth to handle a problem via the email is really not the way to go.  Putting this communication problem on a public board, even less so

The OP is rude in putting something like this on a public board.  Lost all communication skills?

I don't know Traumhof, but for one thing I have gleaned from the stock they are breeding and the commitment they have shown in showing their stock off, this is not a fly-by-night operation and do not deserve to have to defend themselves on a board such as this to preserve their reputation.  Take this off line would be my recommendation.
