She's a lovely girl.  Can't beat a black sable DDR dog for my money.

PS- Is that a "NO DOGS" sign in the background of the trotting pic?  Lol!

How lucky I am that Goofy, aka Preston, adorns this arena. Twenty-five years of breeding Shepherds and it is only now that I discover the miracle of the old breed wardens basic formula of "bringing out type" by using the 4-5 type line breeding (or an approximation). It must be a conspiracy. No need for me to worry anymore about the parents, grandparents or the other 50+ animals in a five-pedigree ancestry. Or that the outcome is mostly a matter of chance. No, it is all because of that magical 4-5 line breeding you see. What a load off my mind. I doubt he knows a thing about the three line bred dogs he raves about. Lovely critique too. A pity it looks like something copied from elsewhere. I am going to stop wasting time with my dogs and shall instead spend my waking hours spinning adorable yarns just like Goofy and friends. They are always so believable, don’t you know. Just loverly and the gullible lap it up.

She is a nice looking girl, but that is only one part of a dog, the temperament needs to be solid, and this is what is most important.  Great nerves and the ability to handle any stress in various situations.

Once you get your titles this will be much more to consider rather than just the structure of the dog when we are looking at working dogs.  Comments on the grip, this is where I have seen a lot of cheq dogs failing to show me breedability.  I have seen many cheq dogs and their grips are shallow and move ALOT.

I have met both Brix and Rookie (littermates) and I can tell you that they are both social, stable and flexible dogs and coming along nicely on their Schutzhund training for all three phases (tracking, obedience and protection).  They are both a lot more than just their striking good looks.

I wish I were as responsible about training as Kim and Jyl.

I must try harder.

Gee, IreneM, with your knowledge base about the GSD after 25 years of breeding as a Euro breeder as you stated, and since you brought it up. you must have come up with some very nice GSDs that placed highly in profung or zuchtschau.  Being that you are a newbie here why not clue the forum folks in on some of your best GSDs and their achievements. This would help establish your credibility and show that you have helpful GSD knowledge to share.  Often when disses someone as you have me, they often either have a problem GSD, or mediocrity is their lot in GSDs and life.  If you have a personal beef with me why not PM me for resolution?

It is my belief that dogs of this typical breeding do very well in bite work.  Some of the ones I have seen have jaws like a steel bear trap when they grab the sleeve.

Breeding is more than just using the time proven 4-5 formula to bring out type.  It involves specific knowledge about what the lines can produce with their best producers which are then used at the 4-5 level.

Brix is a very attractive GSD and it is well known that it is typical for GSDs of her breeding to tend to be very solid and calm, but very tough protection dogs when "on the clock".  I suggested that perhaps the breeder had some inside information from a breed warden or someone very knowledgable about these lines in order to produce such a fine bitch, that's all. Maybe the breeder can confirm this or set me straight if I am wrong.  Maybe it was just pure luck.

I guess you could call it luck mixed with a little knowledge and a touch of personal preference.   I am very picky on lines and looks.  I was trying to find a male for Jaycee's last litter that was close to her type and had the things she needed to improve on, like her short back. She was also a sable dominant female, and I had hoped she could maybe pop out a black or two but she did even better..  She had 7 awesome looking black sable pups,  they were very uniform in conformation and typiness.

Anyway,  I hope this answers the dilema so we can get back on subject.  We took some more really good pictures today.. Maybe Jyl will post a few of all her dogs..  (3 of which were bred by me)  My friends seem to buy them in 3's.  Its kind of funny..  IMO

Have a wonderful evening.

KIM
