You make a good point about people simply showing up only before an event to work multiple dogs. I guess I would ask how do they think they are entitled to do this? Of course, if we hold an event, we give access to our helper before hand *(and we have to pay for a helper since the club is all older women) but we would not allow someone to come and do what you say has been done in your area. No, it does nothing to engender receptiveness.>>>>
Even better question is WHY the clubs allow them to get away with it! I have had to sit and be the bitch multiple times, complaining that this behavior would not be allowed, if it was a pitbull person and should not be allowed for people with money to spend on a bunch of imported dogs and great cosmetic denistry, either. Talk about falling on deaf ears!!!
The everlasting helper issue! Most of us struggle with this one, as most clubs are comprised mostly of women (some of whom don't remember black & white TV, vinyl records, or Selectrics, either).

Well Mystere, I do remember black and white TV, have more than 400 33 lp records but thankfully, don't have a selectric.

what the hell's a selectric?

An IBM typewriter....electric, and all the rage a half century or so ago!! Later models allowed one to correct typos!

Molly, what is the thought on this?
(from hodie):
<<Once again, the rules are clear and need no further clarification. They simply need to be enforced and this is already being done elsewhere. >>
<<video examples of acceptable vs unacceptable work are on the web for all to look at so they would know what to expect, there is no reason not to enforce the rules as they are and do it NOW.>>
What is it that does "not give the Performance Phase Judge sufficient latitude to dismiss dogs with marginal work."
Can anyone explain what this means?
Also, "We must make sure that when a dog receives pronounced we truly mean "pronounced",..."
Well, DUH.
I'm curious to know where the BW feel the rules are currently lacking. I also agree with KYLE that "Until a non pronounced rating nullifies a dog from being VA, its all for naught." That is simply going to have to happen before a lot of people take it seriously.

HAHAHHA!!! Mystere, thanks for the walk down memory lane to high school typing class. I was so excited because we were going to get to use ELECTRIC typewriters...........My parents STILL sent me to college with a portable manual typewriter.
by hodie on 17 July 2008 - 23:07
Yes Val,
Exactly! God knows I needed the self-correcting ability as I never learned to type except with 3 fingers on each hand. Even so, I am able to type 70 wpm, but now and then, I do need to correct a typo. Never wanted to be a secretary or a waitress. Did just about everything else possible, except those two jobs. Had to learn to type because I had to type the list of prisoners in jail every night when I worked as a deputy during college! The men could not do it, but they got paid $3.00 per hour more than did I, although we did exactly the same other duties, including wrestle with inmates or inmates to be! Ahhh, those were the days.........

Wow, now I feel old. We have a manual german typewriter, and an electric american typewriter. I have fond memories of the selectric from high school typing class, and unlike algebra it is the one class I have used. ;) We still have some of dad's old 8tracks in the garage. (why? I don't know because I am a pack rat)
I do agree with Hodie that the rules as they are written are fine, there just needs to be a glass clear example of them good and bad. Most people will rise to the standard demanded of them, and those that don't likely wouldn't pass the more lax one either.
