Blitzen
Good Post. When i take Young Goran to have his Hips and elbows X-rayed in about three months time i think i will have this checked out, regards the DNA. whatecver the outcome he is what he is, Looks like a LC but it will be interesting to find out. Someone at the Club last week called him a Stock Coat but i do not know he has a fair amount of feather around the ears

AlliGSD911's bitch Esther has known long coat producers on both sides of her pedigree and that is a fact why should she waste money to dna test her bitch for the gene . The photo of the son is a plush and the feathering on the ears it showing he does carry this gene.

Steve1, here is the link to the vet DNA center here in the US. As fas as I know this is the only place you can have Goran DNA tested to identify his genetic coat status.
http://www.vetdnacenter.com/canine-long-hair-test.html
All you need to do is order a kit from them, fill out the form, take a cheek swab from Goran, and mail it back to them. Your vet doesn't need to do it; it's easy to cheek swab a dog. You can do it yourself. He might even like it

DDR SDG, the advantage of knowing the genetic status of a dog like Alli's would be if they wished to breed her. If she tests to be a olush carrier and were bred to a dog that did not carry the LC gene, there would be no longcoated pups. 50% would be free of the gene, 50% would carry it recessively. In theory all the puppies could be tested and those that did not carry the gene could be retained for future breeding assuming all else is desirable. If bred to another genetic carrier, approximately 25% of the litter would be clear, 50% would carry the gene recessively, 25% would be genetic longcoats. If she tests positive for being a longcoat, then the odds change and all puppies out of her will be carriers and so on down the line. If you click on the link I posted above you can see a chart that will tell the odds of breeding different combinations.
