Pick Puppy for Stud Fee Question - Page 3

HA! Down here stud owners actually ask for TWO pups as payment. One guy wanted HALF the litter because " Since the dog is like my child, then his kids are my kids so I deserve half of them." His dog is still a virgin, but sadly so is mine.

I have found it hard to find quality females to breed him to. I want puppies out of him but not the expense and hassle of whelping a litter myself. Hence, why I prefer to take pick puppy rather than a cash stud fee. 

My issue is the females owner requiring MY puppy to carry their kennel name. If I am required to use someone else's kennel name on my puppy then I want a hip guarentee just like anyone else who would purchase a puppy from that litter. My male does play a part in hips, etc. but why should I have to use someone else's kennel name and then have no guarentee on hips? Then like Molly said, I would be better off taking a cash stud fee and then simply purchasing the puppy and then I would get the hip guarentee. So then what's the difference is my point?

If I am allowed to use my kennel name on my stud fee pick puppy then I do not need nor desire a hip guarentee. I will simply take my chances and roll the dice.

I asked a question and have gotten good responses from people which is what I was looking for. I had never heard of your pick puppy as stud fee being required to carry the females kennel name and wanted to know if this was normal or just an occasional thing.

Any agreement can be made and it is up to me to decide whether I want to do it this way or not.

My answer for the question "why is the stud fee's pick puppy required to carry the breeder's kennel name" - no matter who the stud is or what the arrangement is, the owner of the litter should register the entire litter using one kennel name - the name of the breeder.  Puppies from one litter should not be registered with different kennel names, it's just not "how it's done".  One litter = one breeding = one breeder = one kennel name.  I would never agree to someone buying or taking one of my puppies and naming it their own kennel name.  Just from where I'm standing as a breeder.  I guess if I did give a puppy in exchange for stud fee (which I would not do) the puppy would go with the same guarantee as the rest of the puppies, along with my kennel name and lifetime support given because I'm the breeder no matter the deal or money exchanged between me and it's owner.

He is a half brother to my Klara Cierna Vdova.  Looks a nice dog.

Can't help on your kennel name question as I am in UK and only the breeder can register the puppies here, though a purchaser can add his kennel name after the pup is transferred to his ownership.  Don't know if that is an option in US.

Litters carry the breeders kennel name traditionally.  AKC will allow a buyer to ADD his kennel name when transferring the dog  -  SAR's pickpup vom Breederkennel - but the litter name should be the females owners.  Tradition pure and simple.  The owner of hte stud is not the breeder.  Personally  I think the idea of pup for stud fee is far outdated.  Stud fees are for a one or two time visit.  Fees run in this breed $500-800 average for WL.  Pups are running 1200-1800 - no brainer.
