Amen, Brothers: I use wire cages built by Canton Cage works to my specifications...These cages have a bottom with a tray under them . They come on a platform with legs to roll outdoors if so want ..They have a dividing panel , that can be used when the pups get 5 mos old and the top two gsd one male and usually one female. , think they are the boss dog...I just slip in a panel and seperate pups to spend the night time hours in peace with water and their own food bowl...on the top I have toys or socks hanging for tugging and these cages are made to be 7 feet long and when divided still leave plenty of shut down time in a not so cramped space...I have 6 such cages and another one built with a 6 x 8 x 5 foot off the ground ,,outdoors under roof with fans and lights....the pups on bad days play , off ground with pee and poop going to the ground underneath on shaving that are dumped in an underground pit...when ready and new shavings replaced...When pups are three mos old they eat and eat and poop and poop and yes .....I dont have time to stand in the nursery 24 hours a day,,,nor does any other breeder....I do not want my pups walking in pee or poop....period....no need for it.....when I remove them from their Mom to give her a milk reproducing time...she isnt there to clean the floor....a mess yes....dont need any pup wallering in nasty.....so they go to the wire....music playing and air conditioning and toys......when I come to talk to them and play with them and feed them ,,I imprint them with noises ,,,,,sharp sounds and tease the with sight exercises.....then clean the trays ,,spray with odoban and by the time they are 6 weeks old...the go outside on nice days in a hugh play pen posted on the Cute PUPPY FACE thread.....back into the nursery with heat or a/c and on the wire.....poop piles get bigger and bigger as I raise pups that eat and have high food drive and very high drives period.....they love their pens and then they come inside two by two to meet the Tv and the indoors settings....A tour over the woods three or four times a week and many days of grandkids playing with them makes pups that are socialized..., and pups with no cocci and that smell good and have no disease.....keeps a good smelling nursery and easy to clean and for anyone who doesnt know it....you have to change the trays three (3x) a day or more.....so its not to not do or mess with poop ,,it for a health reason....and my pups ,,go to people who want health,,,beauty and intelligence all in the same pup.....Food falls thru the wire also so stale food doesnt hang around......This has proven the greatest way to raise pups with out the frustration of pups eating and wallering around in the mess,,,especially since I have many more chores to do in a days work....
Still pups will do the nasty , nasty and get to the poop before it falls thru and you still have to treat with Albon as a preventative for cocci....never in all my 21 years have I ever sold a dog with any disease or worms or any health issue....caused my a nasty or unclean kennel...my pups eash live the life of a king and queen .,,,wearing neck bands and each has toys and music and a/c or heat....no fleas or flies when you are up off the ground and inside .....
\They spend many an hour in the outside before ;they go home.
SO I dispute the i e above.......Yes Oprah needs to visit some kennels of good breeders to show the world they do exist...

From what I've heard today, there is a plan in the works to petition Oprah to interview some dog breeders and David Frei (with the AKC).
Actually I think her show didn't hurt breeders at all. In talking today with some non-doggy people they all came away with the right message to not buy from pet shops and/or puppy mills. Go to a good private breeder or rescue a dog from a shelter. I was curious to know what non dog owners thought about the show, so called some this morning. Yeah, I do have a few acquaintances who don't own dogs, but I really don't like them very much

Yellowrose is certainly no puppy mill, but a small quality (not quantity) GSD breeder. If you ever want to acquire a male GSD puppy that grows up to look like a good looking, large boned, well pigmented masculine male, with correct temperament, contact her. YR is known for producing those kinds of male GSDs.

I dont ever remember hearing a bad thing about Yellowrose. She breeds her type of dogs and it seems she is a decent person.Maybe you should be pointing fingers in another direction towards some of the more known breeders who do DISGUSTING things if we all knew the truth.Yellowrose, you keep up your good work and keep breeding dogs with sound temperment and good health cause that is whats important FIRST.

I'm with Dominic. If you want to bring down GSD puppy mills, start looking at the big names who parcel out their dogs, import Va dogs that live in a crates for much of their time in the US because there is no room at the inn. Just hadda have him though - what a great way to sell stud fees. Some never even lay eyes on many of their dogs, they collect them as if they were sports cars, status symbols. What about those who dump their older dogs in rescues or give them away to the first comer when they need medical attention or how about the imports and domestic GSD's that just disappear into thin air never to be seen or heard from again? And then there are those who allow dogs to stand at stud long after they have produced tons of progeny with EPI or soft ears, HD, UAP, etc.. Some sell longcoats as show quality never bothering to explain to the buyer that the dog won't be eligible for a V rating or a breed survey. I could go on and on, but I won't.
Get real, Jade. YR would have to breed a litter a day for 10 years to even come close to doing the horrendous damage that has been already caused by some in this breed.Want to make a difference? Go after them and let hobby breeders like YR and most everyone else on this board off the hook from your snide remarks and criticism. Walk the walk.............
