Don,
I bet it was. Yup, there is so much to see and to explore. Through driving I have been in all states, just Alaska is missing. I will go there for some serious fishing some day. Hawaii was great, but what I really liked was Indian summer upstate NY, the east coast. Florida is just to humid for me.
I have to run & pick up the wife, I wish all of your a nice weekend.

Ulli, thank you for stating your position. Yes, I did get my dog from a breeder, carefully researched her lines and her progeny. I'm very, very happy with my dog and am still frequently in touch with the breeder. We've become friends and I've referred others to her.
Please believe me, I do not begrudge you (meaning the conscientious breeder) your profit margin. If it weren't for you I would not have the quality dogs that I do have. What upsets me hugely are the puppy makers. Shannan's post about the woman in MI set me off and I lashed out at all breeders, wrongly so.
But there's the woman in California who so loves GSDs that she allows them to run loose and, obviously, winds up will all manner of matings and litters. She's managed to saturate the market in her area and, not wanting the hasle of selling yet another batch of puppies, she put them in the freezer. To die. Turns your stomach, doesn't it?
And the woman in Pennsylvania who kept a male and female from the first litter she produced. And they made puppies, of course. And since they are 'such nice dogs' and buyers are 'just so thrilled that I have the mom and dad for them to see' they're making ever more puppies.
This stuff upsets me hugely.

I am not sure when it has become such a terrible thing to benefit from all the time, love, education and not to forget money, invested in being a "responsible' breeder!
The issue is folks that don't even care to health check their dogs, are not prepared to do right by their pups and clients. Folks that don't understand that in order to do it right it takes time, love, education and money. The good breeders, no matter how small are in this for many years, have made the dogs a huge part of their life, have sacrificed time to go on vacation, to the movies or any other "normal" activities to go to clinics, trials, shows or a trip to the vet. And because of that devotion, the pfuschers in the breeding are the ones that get everyones hair up! And so it should. The ones that want to piggyback on others hard earned knowledge but yet with disregard for what others have invested in maintaining a standard. Just my two cents worth.

Like the dot coms of the '80s.
Excellent post, goose.

Aqua,
never took it as an offense. As you pointed out exactly, and I wished that more "buyers" would at least try to do so, you researched, your breeder did probably exactly that before he initiated that particular breeding. He knew what to expect from what line, and had the knowledge as to what is produced by his bitch and aparently choose that stud, having a fair idear what could be the outcome. The outcome is, you have the dog you wished for. And the icing on the cake, at least for me as a breeder, is when "buyers" still call me, or send a pic everey now & then, or brag about the trail they went to with "my" dog !
Goose,
thank you, your post is indeed excellent. I sometimes really wish my english would be as good as yours. You are so right about the vacation stuff...... my mother in law turns 80 this summer, the wife wants to go to party..... 3 weeks USA..... holy cow, for my part a week would have been enough ! No, I am looking forward to meet friends and be around the family for a week. We rented a house in NC on the beach for all of us. I bet it is going to be fun. Before NC we will be in KC for a week, (have to check how the CHIEFS are doing !), and after NC we will be in Washington for a week, maybe we can get a room in the White House ! Actually I am hoping to see a couple of kennels in the areas, or trainingplaces or maybe even meet some peopel from the DB, that would be a thrill.

Here is a good one for you all...
Check out:
Eleysa Gabriella Von Strehl
I bred this female and that woman who bought her has her listed here as "OFA Excellent" . Keep in mind that the female is only 5 months old....
Things like this make me angry... and she is breeding!!

This was her latest post to me...
Shannon,
I am just taken back that I did purchase a dog from you (fair and square) we talked on the phone, and it seems to me, by your comments your frustrated. Maybe not directly at me , however, if you have an attitude with this whole breeding , why be involved. It was like you were coming AT me , my motive , this and that. I know we all have our days, but I certainly didn't expect that from you.
I did not hide my intentions, I have more than 1 German Shepherd, first off. I love my dogs. They are exceptional, Great Bloodlines. You have no clue what kind of dogs I have and where I obtained them. Everyone starts somewhere, I am sure you did at one time, as well. I know you have a lot on your plate with a house full of children as well. Maybe you didn't mean anything by it. I really didn't think you would come at me the way you did. It is best people keep there comments and opinions to themselves. I know a lot of breeders, compete, and say that "they" have the best dogs. It is just as important if not more, the breeder has a friendly disposition. I am not here to make money, I have fantastic dogs that ANYONE would love to have a pup, whether pet, show, competition, K-9, I am a member of various Shepherd clubs, and Shutzhund. I have alot of contacts, and God in my corner. I don't know why you seemed so angry. I was just being friendly and courteous.
God Bless
Kim
Thought I'd share...

Shannan,
It could be worse. She could be this person: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/classifieds/53491.html
Not only does 4 and 5 not equal 10, but they brag "I have been able to train him to lay and sit so far and he isn't even a year yet..." about the sire.
Why does this breed even have a standard anymore?
by eichenluft on 24 February 2008 - 08:02
from the ad link above "Puppies just born. 2-21-08. 10 of them. females-4, males 5." LOL! I say, if you can't even count, don't breed. This is AWFUL!!!
