Soemone ask , if it is good to mix workingline and "showline" , a real interesting aspect.
My opinion is , why not ? We have a lot of possibilities , when we read the standart of gsd.
And also our "show" - line dogs have a lot of qualities - for shure.
Last summer ,the world champion in SchH 3 from 2007 , Pierre Wahlström from sweden used Andrjuscha for a litter.
And Karl Krug , a top well known working jugde from germany took one of the puppies !
I think a real good sign for all , to look over the "fence".
And for shure , if Andrjuscha get a sable female , he will get sable progeny , actually I have such a litter from a sable Bax Luisenstraße daughter.
Bred to black and tan there is no chance , even he have no sable dogs in the pedigree.
Read also the commetary of Margit van Dorrssen to this aspect of breeding with sables. I also got an SG 3 rated male on siegershow out of a sable Baru daughter, Ultrabox Ducati.
We must check all possibilities and chances to save the race, or more positive : to get more options
take care , Peter Wilmers , trainer of Andrjuscha

Silbersee, Congratulations on V-Gina. She is absolutely georgeous. What a great accomplishment to have done so well in the show ring with her. I agree with your assertions.

SG-53 is the best in that ring? ... please explain how it works. Is SG-1 worse then?
by GSDsportdog on 03 February 2008 - 01:02
Thank you watsongsd,
how many SG rating were in that show? maybe 54??

Watson,
I thought it is common knowledge how the show ratings at the German Sieger Show work. But I am happy to explain it to you (GSDsportdog is apparantly completely clueless and just wants to sound off about "showdogs" when he does not even have any idea about the Sieger Show in Germany):
My Gina was shown in 2006 in the Young Dog Class of the World Championship (German Sieger Show). Judge was Hans-Peter Schweimer. 304 dogs were entered only in this class and 203 were shown. They had the individual stands going on all Friday. After the individual exams, 18 dogs were pulled with a veterinary excuse meaning the dogs were sick and excused. 14 dogs did not reappear for the competition without being excused by the judge. That usually happens when owners are not happy about the outcome of the individuals. 171 dogs remained and competed against each other. In the classes of the Sieger Show, they always start with the end of the group. Dogs are divided into three to four different groups or "rings", like everybody calls it. No judge would be able to look at that many dogs at once. So, the dogs which are called into the ring first are always at the end of the class. About 40 to 60 dogs compete against each other in these groups. When the judge is done with the first group (the dogs at the end of the class), he might take two or three dogs over to the next group, the rest is excused and their placements are recorded. Then the judge "elimates" the next group, takes a couple of dogs over to the next group and so on. When people talk about a dog running in the last or best ring, that means that the dog competed against the top of the class after all the others were eliminated. In the case of my Gina, she received 53rd place out of 304 entered and 203 shown. That means that 150 dogs were placed behind her and I think that is pretty good for a sable dog. You can read this information in the 2006 URMA book, page 194 or the SV archives at www.schaeferhund.de .

Thanks for the explaination. Its ever cooler that she did so well because she is from your breeding.

by Silbersee on 03 February 2008 - 02:02
Thanks Watsongsd, that was sheer luck. Other breeders have good dogs too. With me, the probability is less because I don't have many litters and breed very little. But what is important to me is that she did well despite being sable. That makes me happy and that is the reason I mentioned her here. She is no accident, because her sable mother received SG-47 in the same class 3 years earlier out of 297 entered and 193 shown. For my family, it is a challenge to show dogs which do not conform to the cookie cutter black and reds. Don't get me wrong, I like the black and reds as well and have a couple nice ones too, but as mentioned before, the standard calls for more varieties. Who knows, there might just be a nice black dog in the show ring sometimes too, or a bi-color. That is what I want to see.

Gsdsportdog, pay a visit to the Arlett web site and read the in depth and very informative articles regarding sables? Its written in laymans terms, and very easy to follow.
