ramgsd,
I don't see that we are on the other side of the debate at all. Apparently you do. But be that as it may, if someone wants to start any type of group, be it Schutzhund or otherwise and can make it work without cost, why would anyone be against it? Certainly I would not be given the amount of money I have put into my doing the sport and forming a club through the last several years.
The bottom line is that some people are pointing out that it can be unrealistic, not that it should not be tried if they want to do it. Many times people start in that way and the group quickly falls apart. Other times, the groups work well together and then they see that indeed, to accomplish the things that must be done to become a viable club, it costs money. Unless the founder is willing to carry the group for a while as it builds, even with members paying some dues, most groups don't survive. And most clubs who are small end up with one or a few people paying for the bulk of the costs because there is a limit on what can reasonably be asked for dues.
When there are no or few helpers in a club or an area, then either clubs have to pay for them in one way or another, or they fold. Pure and simple. The fact is that the parent organizations have been unable to attract enough new people and especially people wanting to learn to be a competent helper. Anyone can put on a sleeve. But it takes a long, long time, given the natural skill and abilities, and learning the sport and rules etc, to become a competent helper. The old adage, no training is better than poor training, fits well in this situation but a lot of people do not understand this when they are new.
By the way, I decided not to sell my crates at this time. Thank you for your interest.
