Ok.  "Crunch".  They cannot "slice" either.  "Slice" would indicate a clean cut as if by a sharp object such as a knife.

Most people will understand the "chew" terminology as the breaking down of the food for the purpose of making it more easy to both swallow and digest - for obvious reasons.

I have seen what a canine tooth belonging to a dog can slice, and they can slice human flesh pretty well..............

Ok, Langhaar, whatever you say.

The canine tooth would "tear" through human flesh.  This would be the natural reaction of the human "resisting" the dog bite in a relatively straight direction away from the dog's mouth, or the dog shaking his head/mouth side to side upon his/her "bite".  Otherwise, it would be a "puncture", which is also not a slice.  Regardless, it would still be a "tear" as the flesh is "torn" and not cut cleanly as a knife would do.  "Slice" would result in clean edges to the skin instead of jagged/ragged edges.

I've not only "seen" what a canine tooth can do, I experienced it on my thigh.  It was a "tear" with jagged edges and not a clean "slice".

Now, as far as the jaw moving side to side as a human jaw does, no, it does not and so is "technically" not "chewing".

As I said, the term "chewing" is what most people can and do relate to as regards the dog's breaking down of (at least) the bone and larger pieces of meat that they are consuming.

julliete de baircli levy's book or books should be read by anyone owning a dog .....also dr.ian billingshurst's book "give your dog a bone"......feeding raw chicken over 20 yrs.  no problem..i have witnessed  dogs wolfing a leg quarter [thigh and leg joined] in 1 second...no problem..though they should be fed alone and away from other dogs..then they will eat more slowly.......yellowroseof wherever  putting puppies on wire cages [saw a puppy mill last week on the news that did the same thing] certainly does extremely  more harm than allowing dogs to eat bones..yfi
