Has anyone consdiered the idea that hackers can get into your computer if they know your IP address?  I'm not as coputer savy as I'd like to be, but from what I know about how my computer guy services my computer, all he needs is my IP address and he's in to alter my files, view my emails, etc.  This seems like a pretty dangerous thing to have added?

Any computer gurus here to help me with this?

I sure am nauseated right now thinking about it but am pretty sure you drop IPs on every web page you visit, embedded in every email you send, etc.......but there have been some viscious people on this board.  Anyone can look up your IP and pin down your city easily.

Another thing.  One computer can generate multiple IP addresses if you are on a network; some computers have fixed IP addresses others do not.

I use netmeeting at work and when I had a variable IP it would change each time I logged on. (Not all the digits but some of them) - so one person can have many IP addresses at one computer not to mention those they have from diffrent computers.

I would just as soon they be removed and that Oli would just block any activity from IPs that have caused trouble.

I think people would think twice about being abusive if they realized they could not access or add a pedigree or do anything on this site because they were banned.

The IP addresses being posted will NOT solve any of these problems. I just happened to take a look at another thread I have been interested in to see what has been posted since yesterday afternoon. When I looked at the thread, I noticed, someone else and I have the same IP address. I actually know the other person and know we are not the same person. We actually live several states away from each other. We are both known enough by many to know we are not the same person either. Yet, if we put so much stock in the new "feature" we have to believe that the other poster and I are the same. Or we are sitting at the same computer.

Additionally, if given a couple of hours, I could hack everyone's computer with the information that is now attached to everyone's sign in name. If I can do it, believe me, there are a thousand other people who could do it. Of course, I am NOT going to hack anyone's computer.

This "feature" some of you are so happy with, has now put your computer and more importantly your personal safety at risk. I think the intention was admirable, to some degree. However, computers and people are at risk, AND as already proven, people will jump to conclusions that will most likely cause additional strife on this board.

I am not computer literate, but if what some are saying is true and if this information could be used to hack into other's computers and/or gather personal information on them, then we should also have the ability to sign off this list taking our information with  us.   If no harm can come from it, then it could be a good tool to use to out some of our multiple personalities which can only serve to make this a much more educational board.

I'll leave it to the computer experts to give the correct advice. If 2 posters have the same IP and if they truly are different people as Dees Wolf has stated, then it can't be working correctly. I have 2 different IP's here, maybe 3 since I have changed addresses a few times since signing on this board. However my screen name has never changed and I'm not signed on multiple times using different aliases.

Wow good job Marsha... this is the real shame right here.

Frenzi(64.12.117.12)

Eichenluft(64.12.117.12)

This means Molly was the one talking so poorly about:

  • Molinari Enzo (Gabors dog)
  • Alex vom Eisenhaus (Which the owners told me they were friends of Molly's when I went with my friend to visit pups of Alex) Pedro and his wife are nice people as are Sue & Gabor!!!
  • Oh yea and the post you pointed out Marsha,
  • Molly said T Floyd is a cheater and talked bad of him!!
  • WTF is she thinking?

Best Regards,
Dennis Johnson

So where did the IP addresses go? The fun was just beginning!

I used to have a different IP address from my work computer, but I haven't had that job in 20 mos., and I'm too dense to remember more than one identity. Ha ha ha.

there's something wrong as already stated in this thread. Because there's a post where Frenzi and Vhdoose have the same IP address. and I KNOW uwe and Molly are not the same person. As I said before, I know Uwe personally he normally likes to take credit for what he says or didn't say....and I"ve never seen him attack anyone here short of stating his opinion, and even then he always signs his posts. So I don't think this IP thing is working.
