From a biological standpoint, killing an animal by cutting its throat is actually fairly humane, if it's done properly. The animal loses consciousness within seconds, because the brain is deprived of blood, and if the knife is very sharp, the initial cut doesn't hurt very much. It's probably not much different from using a bolt gun to render the animal unconscious.

Auuugh...I'm ready to move on to a more cheerful topic here....

As usual, you are absolutely correct, Blitzen!

As mentioned before, I can live with the fact that dogs are eaten in other cultures. But inflicting that kind of pain, horror and torture on them for whatever stupid reasons (adrenaline - meat tastes better etc.) is absolutely horrible. Therefore, I prefer not to visit countries like that or even deal with people defending this kind of "culture" (for me, torture and inflicting pain on any living being is downright cruel and does not deserve the definition of "culture").

Iluvmygsd, I hear similar stories about the slaughter houses. Also a few years ago, I watched a video about chicken hatcheries: There was this conveyor blet with all these cute little chicklets on it. A few workers sat next to it and sorted them out by gener. the females were allowed to live becuase they in turn produced more eggs. The male chickens were picked out and thrown alive in a holding area. If they weren't killed by suffocation, the meat grinder cut them up alive. These are the chicken-by-products for the pet food companies.

A while back on the German board, there was a link to a horrific video about animal research and other atrocities. What really stuck in my mind was this poor monkey. Researchers locked him into a narrow glass tube and closed it off. They watched him intently as he was freaking out in there. How can this be justified as valuable for research? I can come up with a lot of other example, like the killing of whales and dolphins in Japan or the clubbing of baby seals for thei coats.

I guess what I am trying to say is that we can take a good hard look right here to find animal torture, and I am not talking about dog or cock fighting. No, something which is legalized and justified as food consumption or medical research.

Yes its illegal, yes I am offended, yes public and political pressure for change is good. And yes I know about the fur market very well.   I was in the fur market at one time..  fox and mink, and wild caught fur.  I always was humane as far as trapping and killing, and butchering can be humane.   There are so many awful things in the world to be upset about, I dont worry as much about the animals as I do the humans, especially children. We can do what we can do but these ugly things will never go away completely.   I didnt mean to diminish the cruelty, only that I see it all and have no real answer other than everyone in one way or another answers to someone for the way they live they're life. And I'm really not anyones judge.

If we all stood up and shouted someone would hear, but how long can we shout before we have to tend to our own lives.

Every individual should at least try to shout out,  if only once , at least once!      I have done my shouting more than once, now I move on.

To quote Galadriel, addressing Frodo in "Fellowship of the Rings", "Even the smallest person can make a difference."

if i remember right, i think the GSD is prefered because they can pass the fur off as wolf fur......

sunsilver....It's probably not much different from using a bolt gun to render the animal unconscious.----------- thats what they did to the cows there.....if i remember right, it was some kind og tube thing that they stuck to the back of the cows head and shot it....but i believe it was something that actually killed them instantly...

ok,so how do we stop these primitive, scumsucking disgusting bastards from doing this to the beautifull GSD and other poor dogs and cats. And yes i too saw the boiling alive of the animals. That one GSD stays VIVEDLY in my mind all day.I can only imagine the terror that animal felt.May these people suffer ETERNAL CONDEMNATION,may there worlds be turned full of agony and heartache and despair,AND YES I MEAN IT WHOLE HEARTEDLY

Yeah sunsilver thats true sometimes.  But your not going to change man, or the world.   Its gone to far in my opinion and driven by the worst of mans sins.   I'm not religeous so I dont believe in those kinds of miracles.  I do believe man will be his own undoing and nature will be the tool that undoes him.

Now I am depressed and wish I could just take my family off into whatever wilderness is left and leave the world behind.

Aint gonna happen.

Maybe you guys can come up with a cure for man.

Bye.

Dominic, by accident I watched that video one night before I went to bed, I couldn't sleep all night. and to this day I still see it in my mind, I think that was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. I can tell you feel the same way I did when I first saw it, I was so pissed off I wanted to kill the bastards that were doing what should never be done. I got even more pissed when I figured out I could do nothing about it. Anytime I go to a store like Wallmart (which isn't often) and I see fur on a cheap coat it makes me think of that video. Almost wish I had never seen it.

The European Union has Banned the import of Cat/dog fur. I found this on Youtube...

I am looking to see if there is a list of countries that have banned it.

On China...here is just so much horror, to humans and animals alike.

Be well everyone and remember to watch somthing cheerful right before going to bed.

by Blitzen on 05 January 2008 - 19:01

Cat and dog fur is banned here in the US too. However, in Asia they mislabel the fur and it still ends up on the racks of stores like JC Penney. When this story broke last year, Penny cut all the fur labels from their garments and returned them to the racks for sale. I can't remember what the Chinese were calling dog fur at that time, I'll see if I can find it on the net. I think it was arctic or wild something or other.

I'm not sure what more it will take for the  citizens of this country to place an embargo on specific items made in Asia. Lead-based painted toys, contaminated food and toothpaste, toxic dog toys sold  at most retail outlets AND  some with AKC tags,  defective tires.......the list continues ad nauseum. I dread the day when we start to see automobiles made in China marketed in the US.  Good bye to GM and Ford when that happens as it will still be about buying the cheapest product to many Americans. We truly are our own worst enemy.
