jasw Like I said, look at many breedings and their parents. Don't be soft! Get a set and hang in there.

You need to understand that there are people on this site who will try into morph into whatever personality suits their argument. There are many things about your post that sound like this very thing. I'm curious why you wouldn't initially go to the breeder since you are satisfied with the first dog you got? If you are not The Idiot, and as I said above you may not be, I would strongly advise you to go where you've had a good experience with a breeder. Like DeKal said most ads are bullshit. Doesn't matter what you're buying. If you scroll through these thread subject lines you'll see post after post of people being screwed over by breeders or brokers. Or sold dogs by breeders who have no clue that what they are breeding is crap. You won't find that out until someone does pass gas and you have to fish your dog out from under the bed. I know I would go to the breeder I trust most. If he doesn't have what I want he'll find it and I'll trust his guidance. That is worth more than gold. Whatever you do, don't believe websites. Any hairbrain with two ofa good dogs can call themselves a breeder. Any deluded person who has never done any training can call themselves a trainer. Any dork who wants to sound important can do a one hour websearch of a subject and try to portray themselves as an expert. This site is harsh but will not tippytoe around information either. Find a dog you like and post a thread on here asking for private message input on the breeder. You'll get some answers that are after revenge but mostly you'll get honest evaluations. It'll be easy enough to tell.

jasw, are you looking for a replacement service dog or a companion for your dog? If you are looking for the latter, I would tend to agree with sueincc, your dogs' best companion is you. Though it's true that many dogs enjoy another dogs company, you might try finding a dog park or play date place in your area that would serve your dogs occasion needs for companionship. Keep in mind an additional dog will require additional training and depending on the services your dog provides this may add more to your load than you really want. I would not shy away from a working dog as a service dog, so long as you get a chance to see the parents and interact with them. I would ask the owners to put the dog on a long down and see how they respond over the course of the next 10 minutes. If they are able to relax into the down I would consider that a good sign, if they seem like their joints are spring loaded, they are probably a bit too driven for you.
