What gets my goat, is,  why hang the woman who owns the female who didnt pass OFA,   what responsiblilty does the owner of the    popular "stud dog" who is suppose to be doing for the "breed""     Why did he breed his   'Stud Dog " to a female without   OFA  certification????????????????

vonissk, I agree, it's an incredible story!  I just wish I had a fraction of her knowledge about 'our' breed! She was right in on the ground floor, with the beginnings of Schutzhund in the States, and also knew all the top AKC dogs and their owners and handlers.

Re. the white GSD...I just had to say that there's bad breeders anywhere you look, and that one you're talking about  is sure a doozie. On the other side of the coin are people like Joanne Chanyi of Hoofprint Kennels, who's been breeding white GSD's since 1968. All her dogs are x-rayed for hips and elbows, and she also collects very detailed information on other health concerns, and has done so for many years. It is small wonder that Tina chose one of her dogs, Hoofprint on the Move, to outcross to when establishing her Shiloh bloodlines.

BTW, my puppy comes from Shiloh bloodlines. I was gobsmacked when I found out!  Here I've been hanging out with the Shiloh people for the last couple of years, done a few tracking seminars with them, and never, ever dreamed the puppy I purchased last April traces back to Tina's dogs on her grand-dam's side!   Talk about serendipity!

Yerah I know the white shepherd person I was checking out the pedigree last nite is not the only one--it just happened to be onmy mind because I just read it.

I bought as German dog yearts ago--early 80's--and the vet said his hips were so bad he was amazed he could even walk.  I had a friend that was trying to establish a working line and he toild me he wanted to use him--I told him about his hips but because the dog was German he was willing to do it anyway.  I told him no way and then I had him neutered and rehomed him.

That's cool your pup traces back to Tina's lines.  Did the Shiloh dogs track good?  You said you did a few seminars with them.  She  (Tina) claims they are able to work.  All I know is what I have read and the little bit I hear--people say they have bad hips, temperaments, etc.  I don't know.  I'm iffy on that knowing what I do about her program.  I used to think the LMX program was great--actually still do--but this was in the day when people weren't xraying etc like they are now..............LMX for those who aren't familiar is litter mate xray program................

The Shilohs caught onto the tracking very quickly, even the young pups. On the last seminar, we had an English Pointer there (as well as several GSD's). The GSD's and Shilohs all tracked very well. The Pointer...just pointed!

A Shiloh named Gandalf rescued a young Boy Scout recently. I know a number that are trained for SAR. They also make good therapy dogs.  I've met one that was dog aggressive with other males, but most have really good temperments. Unfortunately, some of the breeders who have split with Tina are breeding to GSD's still, and I wouldn't be too sure of the temperment of some of those dogs.

I think the LMX program is a great idea, but you still need to x-ray for hips and elbows. Tina also tracks thing like genetic problems, from the non-serious, like faulty tails, to the extremely serious (EPI). It can also tell you a lot about coat colour genetics in your dogs. And she has produced a significant improvement in the hips of her dogs. I can't quote numbers off the top of my head, though.

Here's one of the pups about to do its first track, at the age of 3 months....

Our coach was an RCMP officer, the guy in the sunglasses. We had a raffle of dog goodies to pay his expenses. And there was LOTS of good food...
