4pack

by 4pack on 16 November 2007 - 21:11

It's 71 right now. Sunny California Valleys only hit just below freezing maybe a handfull of days a year. Dogs sleep outside in good insulated dog houses that also stay cool on hot days. My dogs don't sleep inside unless they are sick or injured, occasioanly if I am scared or lonely. I'm a light sleeper and hear every move and noise at night. Wrestless and snoring dogs don't cut it in my bedroom and I don't trust them away from me over night in another room. God knows what I would wake up to! Some nights they bark so I will get up and put them in a crate in the garage.

The house also seems to be too wam for my dogs if they are in more thana couple hours. They love the cold months here after baking all summer.

Pacific Northwest, Puget Sound area.   Rain, rain, and more rain.  At night two sleep in the fully enclosed, heated "front porch" in crates. The rest are crated in the house, except for big baby dog, he sleeps in the bedroom.  During the day we rotate out into kennels as this time of year the yards are a mud hole, can you say rain?????  They trade off between house, crates, kennels, with short times in the drier yard. and more rain.......

Sounds like here much of the time. I call it "Musical Dogs." Hate it, hate, HATE IT!  Can't wiat to change the housing situation from "camping" on pea gravel (read: mud and puddles) to warm, dry indoor facility. Who wants a wet, muddy 5 month old puppy in the house? She can't figure out why she hasn't been inside for a couple of days. Tonight she sleeps in the trailer on straw. I feel guilty as hell, but in a day or so it'll drain and dry out and I can clean her up and bring her in again, poor neglected Baby girl. She can't have a bath EVERY day.

it's a balmy 37 degrees in NJ right now.  Was up into the 40's and very windy today.   So, though not quite as cold as Shelly, still cold.  We'll still train in some snow, but not the real icy stuff.  Training field is closer to Philly, PA though.  Today was the first day, that I actually felt a little cold.

Halfway thru the afternoon it got dark & started spitting snow here, a little further north in pa than Shelley, and it's chilly, but my dogs start whining to go out when it snows, they love it! I must say, tho, they are spoiled brat housedogs, thay don't have to live out in it! jh

The cold nights here in Texas make  mine so frisky, its like an animal circus....flying dogs,  over the hill down the fence lines , running everwhere and whining , barking and yelling and acting like they never had a drop of food in their life....what a difference cold weather makes to a high drive german shepherd..... The are on a natural high here and its so funny.....I have to hide behind a tree to keep from  being knocked off my feet....as they come flying toward me with no mercy.....

I gusess they want me to come fly with them......I dont have their muscle nor their drive any longer....If they see me with the food  its  bombard time.......

Here in Massachusetts, it's about 31°F right now and expected to drop to 26°F later tonight.  Tomorrow's expected high: 42°F  The wind chill makes it feel even colder.. Possible chance of snow Sunday night to Monday.. We'll train outside if it's not too bad, otherwise we'll train inside. The clubs around here are starting to move indoors, or will shortly.
