Thanks to you all for your responses.I guess i am a little afraid of this 44% protein level, will it hurt my boys long term. There are alot of schools of thought on this very subject.I am now having to consider taking my one boy off the Royal Canin 24 due to this formula change they just did.He is scratching and biting ever since they changed the formula.I AM SO F"N SICK OF ALL THESE DOG FOOD COMPANIES AND THERE VERY DECEPTIVE WAYS.If i could only make the commitment of feeding them homemade food they would be so better off.I have been thinking of looking at it as only a 1 day at a time venture as this does'nt seem so overwhelming especially for 2 dogs.

I did not know Royal Canine chagned their formula, when was that?
I used to use Nature's Variety Prarie, but they also changed their formula, and now the two first ingredients are both meals, and I won't feed a food that is not a chicken, turkey or lamb first or second.
I have been happy on the k-9 kraving, but again only because I can trade services with a friend, otherwise I wuld not be able to afford it.

Had him on the "Barking at the Moon" for 4 months but his coat looked a little dull, stools were good.
On Orijen "Adult" now for about 3 months coat is shiny again and stools are good also.

I tried evo and two of my dogs could never get hard stools. I went to my holistic vet and she told me that alot of dogs cant take the all meat diets. she doesnt know why. she thinks we might have weakend their digestion feeding all the grains. now i feed california naturals chicken and rice. they seem to be ok on it.

If the dog has diareaha (sic) when initially switching to RAW, probiotics can clear it up.

I would of thought more people used this grainless food.Has anyone been on this type of high protein diet long term say 3 or 4 yrs?Just trying to get a feel for a high protein diet.I guess the dog food companies have inbedded grains in our heads for so long that we now question everything.

To the best of my recollection, the major grain-free brands have only been available for the past couple of years. These food tend to be rather pricey when compared to alternatives.

I have been feeding my working line male and my show line female Orijen Adult for almost 1 year now, they are doing well & love the stuff; we tried the fish once with no problems, either. I, too, was leary of the high protien content, but decided to try it, my boy was having bouts of panno, and I was most nervous about him, but once we started with the origen, no more panno! No urinary problems, less stool volume, nice shiney coats, and +++++energy! My vet also concurs, they are at their ideal weight. She doesn't 'like' specialty foods, but she was impressed with how nice my dogs looked. I am very happy with Orijen, especially because they own their own factory, and it is used exclusively for their foods, Champion Dog Foods. And no imported products, period! It is expensive, but I feel it's worth it to know that no Chinese wheat gluten, or other foreign materials are used. I feel my dogs, and so my family, are safer. jackie harris
