Two Moons

by Two Moons on 13 November 2007 - 23:11

Mirasmom,

That was many years ago,  I kept one, gave another to a friend. The two of them were really nice dogs.

The main thing was a strange variety of colors. Red sable, silver sable, black and tan, and mine was white with a silver saddleback. He had a dark face and a black nose. A little larger than standard but very intelligent . One all white pup was born as well. I didnt see any abnormalities and my male lived to 12 years until he was shot by a neighbor who likes shooting things. I still have his number if you know what I mean.

Back then I didnt keep track of the other pups be we lived in the same place for 10 years and I never had a call back on any of them.

I'm more careful now when a bitch is in heat, and more concerned about what I bring into this world. old age will give you perspective I think.

LOL,

This is such a slow way to communicate, its hard to really make a point before the subject changes all together.

I think the site needs a real time chatroom. What does that sound like to anyone?

Hello

When it comes to breeding it will not matter if its Inbreeding, Linebreeding or outcrossing. There is a chance in every breeding that you can have a health problem. Most breeders will not try inbreeding most will admit they do not know their lines well enough to try it. I think everyone knows every purebred dog has been created with some amount of inbreeding. I have seen litters from complete outcross breedings produce severe health problems. I have seen the same from Linebred litters. But what hurts the breed most are people who jump on their soap box to trash any idea that was not theirs. The facts are breeders do the breedings for a reason and pet buyers have the pets for a reason. I am some what amazed that someone who admits to being a pet buyer only could have so much knowlege about breeding.

Hi Gerald,

I think today dogs are being bred for this or for that , but not bred as an all round German Shepherd like Stephanitz had in mind.  Health issues aside I think the bred has lost something over time.

I think follow up on a litter is important to see what progeny have developed into.

I think there will always be breeders who dont care about anything except money.

I respect breeders who really care about what they do.

I dont have anything bad to say about you Gerald. I hope today hasn't been to rough on you.

Brent.

JMO but, I feel that to be a "real" breeder, you must have a set goal in mind.  You are breeding to establish "something" in your lines.  If you are just throwing two breedable dogs together for the sake of producing a litter, you're letting the breed as a whole down.

If someone asks you why you bred dog A with dog B what would your answer be?  Most serious breeders that "inbreed" or "linebreed" (which are different from each other) do so with a specific goal in mind.  They are trying to establish their line.  And in doing so, setting "definites".' ie, the majority of the pups produced will have tight feet, correct croups, high set ears, etc.

I also believe you must know what you're doing to inbreed.  Faults can multiply rather quickly.

Welcome aboard Gerald and I hope your breeding program produces what it is you're looking for.

So only those who breed can have an opinion????  Talk about snobbery!!!

I like how some of you blast people and then when they reply, you say, "WOW" or "OK"

Grow some balls and think for yourselves.  If you have a belief, stand behind it.

It is funny to read some of the posts on here.  People that own dogs that derive from wolves, acting like sheep.

WOW!  OK!

Before tonight I was thinking it was wrong for me and my father to have sex and have a child together.  Now I realize that it's not incest but just "tight linebreeding".

Disclaimer:  Sorry, but I saw Don C's post and the inspiration hit me.
