Silbersee...I agree....those dogs are beautiful!...

Silbersee

Thanks everyone, for the nice comments on our male and the female out of our kennel. I am sure her owner will be happy about it. But my family and I put a lot of emphasis on pigment and black markings, the more the better! We kind of "specialized" in sable conformation lines and feel that good pigment and markings is even more important in sables than in black and reds/tans. IMO, judges already use enough excuses to put them back in the show ring. So, we do not need to add on any more. And yes Bucko, you are right about the assumption that the black and red is pretty much needed to win in the show ring. Let me bore you one more time with a link to one of our sable dogs: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/414868.html Gina lives in Germany with her owner (I still have an interest in her too, of course), our friend who also owns the other Gina (vom Aquamarin, the World Siegerin). The photo does not show her beautiful pigment, she too has a great red coat. It was taken at a big show in Belheim, Germany in bright sunshine during the individual stand. In 2006, Gina placed SG-53 which put her in the best ring at the BSZS, but in previous shows she had beaten some dogs which were  now 10 to 20 places in front of her. But at least, she was one of the best sable females or maybe the best one at the Sieger Show. Her mother Vila, who resides with us and is also a sable, but  more of the black kind, was SG-47 a couple of years earlier. So, while it is rare that you can place well with a sable it does sometimes happen. My family likes to be unique. That is why we now added black dogs. If next year's Sieger Show would be closer to home we would show our V-rated black female just to see what the judge would do with her. But flying her to CA is a bit too far for us.

Back to topic: I do have to agree with Melanie (GSDfan) with everything she writes. Breeding for fads is the worst thing which can happen to any breed. All breeders should know the standard and try to breed for it accordingly.  That goes for fading pigment and lack of black markings too, Bucko. This does not mean that you can't "specialize" within the standard, when it comes to color, lines etc. But even von Stephanitz warned about fading colors.

I honestly am not sure what you are looking for and I know nothing about sables and usually don't care for sables, but I just saw this ad and thought this pup was really pretty.  Just thought I would bring it to your attention.........

If you look at the thread Puppy mill you will see a red sable female (F9) she looks like she needs a good home and is what you are talking about

Just a thought
