a number of the fires here in calif are being attributed to arsonists. sometimes they do plan them, sometimes they take advantage of the circumstances to light more fires. however, whether an accidental spark from a construction crew, dry lightening, tossed cigarette, any number of accidental causes, or some evil freak who gets off on destruction and mayhem, the unfortunate end result is that good people and their animals and their property are the ones who pay. they haven't even begun to tally the pet and/or wildlife losses. i did read this a.m. that at least 4 horses had to be euthanized because of injuries related to the fires. the political fallout/blame, etc can be argued later. now it is really the time to try to help those who are truly in need. keep the political stuff for another site or at least for later....k

RoZoAn,
A very good friend of mine ( childhood buddy) lives in Ramona and he said things are ok where he is at. I can't speak for all of Ramona but at least where he is all is well. Actually he said that there has not been a need for he and his wife to take in people as they did in the fire of 2003. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if Beaumont, California (Banning area) is still alright? I have a sister and her family living there and we have not been able to make contact.
My prayers go out to all in the fire areas. May good, decent people step up to help rehome them and their pets.

gsdfanatic1964-- I really hope your sister is ok...you must be worried sick! I know the feeling, when katrina came through, i evacuated with my hubby and kids...my sister and her kids stayed...then her husband called us at 4:30 am..freaking out cause it was getting so bad, saying they wish they would have left...then right as he was telling us that, the phone lines went out...we did'nt hear from them untill 2 days later when we were allowed to go home! those 2 days were the worse part of the storm...please let us know when you hear from your sister...I hope all is well..
gsdlvr2---really cool of you for doing this...

I live in AZ, not really close but driving distance. If anyone has a friend in need of a place to stay, we have a camper and a huge yard that can be split up to accomodate other dogs. I can't imagine living your life one day and being homeless the next. So many times with FEMA there is no provision for people who don't want to part with pets. We all know what happened to these left behind pets in New Orleans.

My GSD friends are ok, However, I feel like the underground railroad for some Rotties. some of my friends have not wanted their dogs to stay in the smoke filled air, and so we have been transfering them out of the thick of it. Even at my home, It is in the air, I am hosing down the outside 2 a day to keep the falling ash away. I had crates all over the house, they have all been picked up and gone to other friendkennels. What an experiance, scared and without thier families, My hat is off to all of you who do rescue, I have rescued a few GSD's in the past, but not under duress. It is a good thing my hubby was out of town, he would have had a stroke. I went to the store and bought steaks cooked it and made alot of friends. I can also pitch in, if someone is looking place your dog in a home, side yard kennel, fenced property over 6 feet. Orange County. i work out of my home so I am here 90%of the time. Only problem is if you leave them to long and I fall in love, you might have to share custody later.

Catalino Pineda, 41, was arrested Wednesday, Officer Kate Lopez told CNN. Witnesses told police they saw him lighting a fire on a hillside in the West Hills area of San Fernando -- northwest of Los Angeles -- then walking away, Lopez said.

Fox News tried to Play off their usual "Al Quaeda" nonsense.
But the facts are this: "Diversity", Illegals & Unrestricted Open Borders & Immigration is Killing us.
The Irony is that these illegals will now be employed working on re-building houses for years where they just burned.

I always felt every time the fires got going out in CA it was attributed to arson. I just found it very hard to believe that each time these wildfires got going it was not some freak accident EVERY time. It was my theory that the arsonists were from some extreme group having some sort of hatred with the American people and just another way to attack innocent lives.
My grandmother lives on a small island in Greece and every year at least once a year they get someone starting fires because where she lives they get little rain, very dry, windy on the mountain tops, and of course they do not have fire dept.'s like we do here that could ever keep up with wild spreading fires. They have found that when the fires strike it's usually politically related by some extreme group. The people have lost their homes on more than one ocassion and they don't even have insurances over there like we have here. It's very expensive and most can't afford to have it. People have lost their homes, their livestock and agriculture that they rely on to make their living thus having a HUGE adverse effect on them when the loss hits. The government and it's law enforcement never seems to catch the people behind setting the fires so it just goes on and on like a never ending story. Much like in CA.
My prayers are will you folks on the west coast. Stay safe. Material possessions can be replaced but lives can not.

Coming from CA, I know all too well how easy fires can start when the grass and native shrubs are tinder-dry and the winds blow. Really, it doesn't take much. The humidity is very low in CA. One of the biggest problems is that people move out to the hills and canyons, delighted with the views and their privacy, and fail to clear the shrubs around their property. Once the fires start, they can rage out of control in no time with unlimited available fuel. How any sicko can start an arson fire under those circumstances is beyond me, but apparently there are plenty of them out there. I just hope they catch the bastards.
