I agree the Airline did us a HUGE Favor for handleing the whole situation the way they did !!!   I am in they're debt.

The dog is seeming fine this morning,  He is nervous still but settled in pretty nicely overall given the circumstances...

The checkout guy who saw what we saw when the guy slammed on the brakes,  said he would be speaking to the supervisor today.

Animules,  OH BOY,  That is first and foremost my suggestion ALWAYS....  Still is !!   LOL

Seems like everytime I say I will never do something I end up doing it the very next day!  I think it's called being human? Best to never say never

Glad to hear the dog finally made it and is doing okay.

If the airline sent your dog to you after he ate through the crate and was loose in the cargo hold, consider yourself lucky.  It was irresponsible to put the dog back on a plane if he had a history of being a Houdini.  To have a large loose dog in the cargo hold, could have been a disaster to all on board.  Depending on the make and model of the plane involved, MILES of wire run through some cargo areas and to have a dog confused with his surroundings and frustrated to boot, he could have chewed through a wire bundle and caused endles problems while 5 miles above the Atlantic Ocean(pressurization, fire protection, monitoring of fuel, caution/warning systems, fly by wire flight control manipulation abilities or the lack thereof, the list is endless).  If you ship long enough you will run into problems like this(probably not this extreme) sooner or later.  The priority(I know this will be hard to swollow) of the airline is getting those passengers, on board from point A to point B, S-A-F-E-L-Y(not catering to a dog).  Making additional revenue by hauling a pet as in this case, is not always a benign event and in the overall big picture comes in at a distant second  when it comes to compromizing aviation safety.

Another plausible scenario.  You are a baggage handler(just another day on the job) and you open up the cargo hold and a confused, highly frustrated,  professionally bite trained German Shepherd is there to chew your face off when you open the door and you are not expecting it.   If the cockpit flight crew(of the second plane the dog was connecting to) had any knowledge of this dog chewing his way our of his crate on the originating flight, trust me, they would have refused to haul the dog another nautical mile.  The crew is very safety conscience and your personal considerations/concerns, in the event you described in your initial post would have been of no consequence to them.  Consider yourself lucky it all worked out well and enjoy your dog.

Maybe the dog should have been tranquilized BEFORE shipping.

by Wingertshaus on 10 October 2007 - 16:10

Airlines will not except tranquilized dogs for shipment!

by EchoMeadows on 10 October 2007 - 18:10

I am as I said very thankful to the Airline for doing all they did !!!    I know they did NOT have to ship the dog on,  But the Pilot agreed to let the dog on,  It was a cargo only flight,  or likely they would NOT have....  I would not have blamed them...

Spooky OL BUDDY !!   good to see you again,  NOT...  Of course I made it all up not for sympathy, more for a laugh,  But of course this is all fiction,  I am fiction,  this is all fiction, we are all fiction,  OH WAIT.... NO that would be YOU who does NOT really exist isn't it ???

What dog did you Title again ??

What club ??

LOL

Your response will be as always Predicatable.... and accusatory back at me so don't bother we are doing fine without your JackA**ism.

Echo, that sounds hellacious and the seller should have been available in some way (or a representative) in case of unexpected problems.

As far as the post itself, I have to say the tone of certainly didn't express any gratitude on your part to the airline at all. Just put the dog on the freaking plane! etc.. Never mentioned the above and beyond or any thankfullness for it. Maybe that's why people see you as being ungrateful for what they did. That's the impression your post gives and people can only go by your own words whether you misspoke your feelings or not.

Dawg,  OK I can see where you are coming from,  I guess I should have added that I tipped the boys at the desk a 20.00 each just for being so cool, and helping us,  and before I got off the phone with the lady in Denver I Thanked over and over and told her if she were here I would hug her !!  and of course I laughed cause NO I'm not weird....  Anyway I do see your point,   I should have stated how greatful to the Airline I was for doing all they did to help us get this dog here,  I did not do so and that in FACT was my Bad !!   I appologize for it coming off like I was ticked at the airline I was NOT...  I was ticked at the Shipper for NOT / REFUSING to answer the phone,  I think they knew there would be problems and knew if they answered and the dog did not ship that they would have had to REFUND they're NON Refundable money,  as I later found out that not only was the deposit NON refundable,  ALL Monies are NON refundable,  Shipper stated in an email.." I don't REFUND EVER for any reason"   But I think if the dog could not have shipped that would have voided that statement,  who knows....  It's over now,  The dog is pretty comfy now,   and as soon as I get results from vet the deal is done...

Dawg,  I do appreciate you pointing that out,  As I knew what I was trying to get at but can see how it reads differently to different people,  again it's a matter of perspectives I guess,  and we all have our own,  not saying that I did clearly point out my frustration,  YOU are correct in that I did not,  again I appologize for that.

This is exactly why some breeders   will  not ship a pup or dog anywhere......come get it yourself or send a driver.....doestnt cost any more to hire a truck/cross country drivers to go pick up dog and pay the same fees...not near as heartbreaking.....

Echo, I do the same thing. Get in a hurry (especially when irritated with something) and don't give a complete picture of the situation.  I think the breeder was a total ass for just sticking the dog on the plane and washing his hands of it. No excuse for it.
