If the Vet took the dog for euthanasia, and billed the client for same... they will be legally at risk for placing the dog. I always asked permission "If we can find a home for her would that be all right?" when healthy dogs came in... but we didin't bill the owner for euthanasia/disposal. We also took in dogs from the town pound... origionally the contract read "for euthanasia and disposal" which I changed for "Disposal" only leaving us the option of finding homes if possible. Am quite proud to say that nearly 50% of the dogs brought from the pound the Dr and I managed to find homes for. And a ^5 to him, as he paid for the care of these dogs often for months if we had the space in our hospital kennels. I think that's one reason that I loved working with him all those years.
