Sounds like Chaos actually isn't too skinny.  I think he looks wonderful in my opinion.  Of course, with the thickness of his hair, you really have to feel him to say that he is too skinny.  Like I said though, that was when he was 60ish pounds.  After the judge told me that, I changed his food and started adding a can a day of the canned food with his kibble and he did go up to 73.5 with in a few weeks.  I think he put on like 7 lbs or something like that when I started feeding different.  I haven't shown him since July so I don't know what they will say now.  Here's her picture now as she is as a few days ago.  I posted it on the new stack  message for him.  He looks to me like his butt got bigger too, lol.  From behind anyway as he is walking away from us.

SW, he looks good, though it's a bit harder to judge weight with the long coats!

Ranger Aragorn 25" (I think) and 80 lbs. Here he is with his 'poodle' shave, following his ultrasound!  He dropped down from 83 to 63 lb. shortly after I got him, due to the stress of the changes in his life. The dumb vet said he thought that was a 'good weight' for him, and that 83 lbs. had been overweight!

I thought he'd lost a lot of weight this summer, playing with the puppy, but it turned out he just converted it to muscle! He was weight shortly before this photo was taken.

[sigh] I mean he was WEIGHED. Sorry, coffee hasn't quite kicked in yet! LOL!

I met a King Shepherd at the dog park last night. He was 10 months old, and over 26 inches, and the owner said he came from Germany, though he didn't have papers for him (couldn't be bothered paying to have him registered.) I told him Germany doesn't recognize the 'King Shepherd'. The dog's colour was close enough to Ranger's that it was hard to tell them apart from a distance.

So, THAT'S what Germany is doing with all the oversized Shepherds that aren't being placed in the show ring anymore!!  The true King Shepherd, the one recognized by the ARBA actually has another breed of dog mixed in with it (not sure, think it may be Malamute?)

Anyway, the dog moved funny behind, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out it's dysplastic. I can't really define what was wrong with its gait. It just seemed awkward, especially when turning quickly. It did not look overangulated, and it could be he was just a bit gangly still, due to not being fully grown.

Baden weighed in at 78.5lbs last time we went to the vet as apossed to 80 the time before. I try to kee him very lean adn always hungry. He can put on weight too quickly compared to my other dogs. I have no clue as to his height. Anybody out there who thinks they can stand his still long enough, take your best shot! Anyway he is just shy of a year right at 80lbs. Sorry for the crappy picture but I had to steal it from my myspace ccount. I have a new PC and have not put all of my pictures on here yet.

Pic at age 10 months, a little on the pudgy side before I slimmed him down. I actually prefer to see his rib cage outlined. Only when he has been running and is sucked up can you count the ribs.

My Eagle is 97-98 lbs, can see his ribs (I keep him on the lean side due to his size and age), and he is at the top of the standard 65 cm (really 66 cm) - he is V-KKl-1, very correct in conformation - and has HUGE bone.  There are no GSDs with larger bone structure or bigger head than he has.  So basically he's "as big as they should be" - anyone who says they have a 100+ dog who isn't oversized - the dog is overweight.  Personally I like a male who is 80 lbs or thereabouts in good condition - I think that is the perfect size for a working male GSD.

At the withers (like a horse)

by eichenluft on 16 September 2007 - 15:09

actually for German measurements it is just behind the withers.  Not on top of the withers.

Oh, then my dog is not 27 inches! He's a tad bit under.  Thanks for the clarification, Molly.
