Why would you know the size of a GSD with that character????

There are a number of bitches out there (um, ok, aren't MOST of them?) that are bumping up or over the height std and one would think they would be looking for "medium" or "medium large" males to mate with.  Hence wouldn't the popularity of those smaller males rise???

Look--I have a couple of excellent USA studs (VA-sired, spitzen V, SchH3, IPO3, KKl 1"a" lbz) who are really 64 cm. I can count on very few fingers the number of medium-sized bitches bred to my boys. Many of these girls are taller than and weigh more than my males.   While these boys do get their share of quality bitches, most people who breed to them do so because of their reputations as show dogs who can really do the work with great grips, drive-containment, joy for the work, obedience, and clear heads--and because they have and produce good hips/elbows. The titled bitches that come to them are not from big, mass-production kennels but from small, hobby breeders whose bitches are their pets and companions.

Personally, I think that all dogs should be measured accurately to be 65 cm or less. Too bad what their breed surveys may say or if they have previously been VA (or high V) in Germany or elsewhere. A clear "wake-up call" is the only way to impress breeders that oversize will not be tolerated. It's not as if breeders have not been given adequate warning in recent years that over-size would be penalized.

I had one körmeister (who has been a German Sieger Show judge) tell me that, any over-sized previous VA (or spitzen V) males shown under him, would be "measured" as 65 cm on that day!    I saw  this same  judge give a high SG rating to a 72 cm male in one of the younger classes.

There is a medium sized male at Mittelwest. His name is Yasso and is a Stano son. I am considering breeding to him as my bitch is large and I do not want to go with a large dog.

He is very nice and works GREAT! He is correct coming and going and has very sound temperament.  He is V rated and a SchH 3.

If you are looking for VA dogs, Teejay and Albert are large, have seen both up close. Nice dogs, but not medium sized.

I've seen Teejay, too. No matter if his breed survery says that he is 65 cm, he certainly seems large to me, too. Maybe I have been in the company of 63.5-64.4 cm midgets for too many years.

There should be plenty of top quality, medium-sized males (not necessarily VA) from which to choose from in North America. Perhaps more breeders will turn to them when they see that excess size is heavily penalized.

Have been around Ulko and he is not a huge dog. Just about the right size. He is throwing some very nice puppies, good size females and very good pigment.
